“The Hills” Series Finale: The End of a Not-So-Reality TV Era

14 Jul

Watching The Hills come to a final end was bittersweet. I didn’t know that I liked it as much as I did until I knew that it was over for good – at which point, I actually felt sad. It felt like saying goodbye to an old friend; albeit, a friend that I knew I had outgrown, and, a friend that I knew I was better off without, but, still, sad in the sense that I was saying goodbye to a friend nonetheless. It was symbolic in a sense, as they were closing a younger and more carefree chapter of their lives, so am I and many of my friends, too, as we all move on to pursue other things.

That being said, I thought that the ending was genius….well, as genius as The Hills could get. For a show so superficial and shallow, it was a perfect, simple, and clever ending, that left us all wondering, pondering, and still wanting more.

Aha! I KNEW it was all fake …

But wait, was it? Are they mocking us? How much of it was fake? Are we supposed to just interpret this how we see fit? What was reality and what was fake? Was it all on a sound stage? What was scripted and what was not? How much of it was their real lives? What about what Brody said in the after show? How DO him and Kristen really feel about one another? Were they all acting the whole time?

We may never know.

Just as we have not ever really known up until this point.

So the sound stage/studio ending was so poignant and so well-played, that I have to give MTV major props (pardon the pun) for that one.

What are your thoughts? And were you saddened to say goodbye to The Hills?

PS: Do you think that Kristen Cavillari’s new life in Europe will result in a spinoff show?

Thoughts?

Britney Spears Does Cosmo, Candies, and GLEE! New single, soon, @BritneySpears?

14 Jul

Britney Spears is back with a bang and looking better than ever!

Not only is she gracing the “Hot” issue of the current August 2010 Cosmopolitan magazine, but it’s also been confirmed by multiple sources that GLEE is, in fact, as Glitzburgh reported months ago, doing an All-Britney episode early on in the upcoming season!  Glee, which won *19* Emmys on Thursday, will pay tribute to Ms. Spears and rumor has it that Britney may even have a guest role on the episode (not yet confirmed.)

Additionally, Britney is designing an exclusive, limited-edition line of clothing for the Candie’s brand for Kohl’s that she currently endorses. (While she’s been the Candies’ girl, this is the first line she’ll have a hand in designing.)

Kudos, Britney!

PSSST…. Rumor has it that Britney will be dropping a new single in coming months; stay tuned to Glitzburgh for the latest Britney news!

Movie Review: Twilight Saga: ECLIPSE … Love the Books, But The Movies Leave Me Wanting More…

14 Jul

Ok … I hate to say this but…Eclipse was just “okay.”

I love the Twilight series.

Wait, strike that. Let me rephrase: I love the Twilight BOOK series.

Also – I like Kristen Stewart. I like Taylor Lautner. I like Robert Pattinson. Conceivably, I SHOULD like the movies.

They just aren’t GOOD.

Don’t get me wrong: they entertain me. I will see every single one of them. I get goosebumps when I see the trailers for the next upcoming film.

However, that’s only because I’m in love with the romance, drama, and action of the BOOKS.

I also get caught up in the hooplah, the hype, and the whole pop culture phenomenon that IS the Twilight Saga.

It almost makes me forget how average – even below average – that the movies really are.

I do not know what is lacking, because, the books have it ALL. I mean, they are AMAZING. I always feel badly for people who have only seen the movies, and who have never read the entire book series, because, they are totally, 100% missing out on something magical.

The movies “should” rock. After seeing “Remember Me,” I learned that Robert Pattinson is actually an amazing actor. I can tell, too, that Kristen Stewart is also an amazingly gifted actress who truly cares about her craft, maybe more so than any of the others. Taylor Lautner, well, who cares if he can even act or not….look at him. (All kidding aside, he seems like a decent actor, as well.) And it isn’t like the movies aren’t making money, so, they have to have an awesome budget, right?

So — the ingredients are there – the books were genius, there are good actors on board, what seems to be a nice supporting cast (Anna Kendrick was nominated for an Oscar, right? And Peter Facinelli is a good actor, what gives?) – and there should be a big budget … so what is lacking?

Am I the only person that thinks this?

I thought that the 2nd movie, New Moon, was better than this one, though this one should have had a lot more romantic tension and action than what came through on screen. Something just always seems “lost in translation” to me. I said that after the FIRST  Twilight movie.

And one more thing:

ALL OF THE FIGHT SCENES IN THE TWILIGHT MOVIES ARE EXQUISITELY LAME. Come on! I get it, gotta keep a PG-13 rating for the kiddos, but CUT ME A BREAK. Super lame. Corny. Times TEN. No….times infinity!

Don’t get me wrong – there were some OMG amazingly romantic, butterfly-inducing moments in Eclipse. I’m still in love with Edward but crossed over to be borderline Team Jacob in this movie and found myself, on occasion, so wanting to BE Bella that it wasn’t even funny. I’m still a Twihard. I don’t mean to betray my kind. It’s just … I wanted it to be MORE than it was.

Maybe I’m just watching too much True Blood? Or has Vampire Diaries clouded my mind? Did I just hype it up too much in my head?

Thoughts?

Ok, I’m going to go read Midnight Sun now.  Please don’t send the Volturi after me.

*Hides from mobs of angry Twilight fans*

Taylor Lautner Fever hits Pittsburgh as ‘Abduction’ Films Around Town

14 Jul

On June 30th, there was an open casting call at Carnegie Mellon University for extras to be in an upcoming film called “Abduction.”

You may have heard of it.

It’s a little flick starring, oh, you know …. Taylor Lautner.

Ring a bell?

I went to the casting call. Just for the heck of it. I’m on “the list.”  If you’ve done extra work or are familar with “the industry” you know what that means.

It means that, for example, they could call me at 7pm tonight and say that they are looking for extras to be on set at 6am until 6 or 7pm tomorrow, can I be there?

Do I get to look at Taylor Lautner with his shirt off? If so, maybe I can.

Anyway….

So, I went to the casting call to sort of “scope out the scene.”

It was rather interesting. For the sake of this blog, I decided to interview some people while I waited. (Which, wasn’t long. Turns out, going places early, and wielding a Flip Cam and lap top with some media credentials can yield a lot of power. As well as having the actual professional headshots and acting/modeling resume that were required of you, unlike seemingly 80% of people there.)

There were some “Twihards” who were……let’s say…..delusional. I’d like to know who actually thinks that the star of a movie is going to waste his or her day sitting at a casting call for movie extras. Wait – I DO know…..16 year old Twilight fans, that’s who. I didn’t want to burst their bubble, but, the interns who worked for the casting agency sure did. Poor gals were mightily disappointed that “Jacob” was not going to be there.

I also want to know this. Let’s just say – for fun – that Taylor Lautner DID show up at the casting call that day. Hypothetically. Does anyone REALLY think he’s going to go for a lady in her late 30’s-early 40’s dressed like a cheap Vegas  hooker? I don’t know. I’m guessing no. Maybe it’s just me….but I just don’t *really* get that vibe from him. But, believe it or not….there were some DESPERATE desperate housewives there. Maybe they were “stage moms” escorting their  young daughters….maybe they were just escorts. I really don’t know. Either way, maybe not the best attire? Way cougarlicious.

Folks, he isn’t interested in you. Or me, or, probably, anyone in Pittsburgh. Maybe no one right now. This is just something that I’m throwing out there.

Yes, I got little tinglies from head to toe when I found out that he’s living just a stone’s throw away from where I reside and that he was spotted more than once at a Starbucks that I frequent.

Yes, today I did drive to the location of his movie shoot today, because, I was off, had nothing to do between doctor’sappointments, and, I write an entertainment blog….so….I mean, duh! A picture would have been GOLDEN! And, it won’t be the last time that I go “werewolf hunting” in my free time this summer. (So sue me. I’m a blogger. And he’s hot.)

However…..do I have grand delusions about him? No. Have I ever had grand delusions about a celebrity? No. And I’ve met my fair share. I laugh when I see/hear/read how people act around stars. I mean, a group  of teens got arrested trying to take photos of him today?

Sigh.

Kids….when will you learn?

Be sneakier 😉

Pssst….Taylor Lautner spotted today filming in Elizabeth on Bunola River Road and Elkhorn. Security was tight but Glitzburgh will clue you in on where he’ll be filming in Pittsburgh tomorrow! I do know where he is residing in a neighborhood of Mt. Lebanon, Pittsburgh. If you do have photos or sightings, you may email tips to glitzburgh@gmail.com.  However, regardless, I will NOT post his exact address or any photos of place of residence out of respect for privacy.  Do not ask.

So close but so far, one of Lautner's movie crew members in Elizabeth today. He's hot too though 😉

These kids apparently did a better job of it than me today — I don’t know the area well enough to go traipsing through the woods. Someone give these children a job 😉    ~~~> http://www.961kiss.com/pages/scottro.html?an=Taylor-Lautner-Jr.-Paparazzi

Mashable Social Media Day 2010 ~ Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Tweetup – #SMDay2010 #SMDay

14 Jul

June 30th, 2010 was the first ever national “Social Media Day” and to commemorate this special event, Pittsburgh held a Mashable Social Media Meetup  at the esteemed Andy Warhol Museum. I could not think of a better place than the Warhol to talk one of the biggest influencers of pop culture today: social media.

The first 50 guests to “check in” on Foursquare (showing proof via their smart phone of choice, naturally) received a free Social Media Day t-shirt. Attendees enjoyed a cash bar, a luxe yet relaxed atmosphere, and got to chat up their online pals IRL.

Tweeps linked up with LinkedIn friends in real life, as Facebook acquaintances friended one another in the flesh. The networking that was done was social indeed, but it was done without the benefit of emoticons, Twitpics, or hashtags.

Naturally, words with friends were exchanged, but most iPhones were kept in purses and pockets as true friendships were developed and explored in person.

The crowd was diverse, ranging from chic to geek and everything in between, and, everyone went back to blogging, poking, and tweeting in near anonymity just minutes after dispersing, but, for those hours at the Warhol, it was a nice occasion where two worlds nicely collided, cultivating and developing friendships new and old.

I think that Social Media Day will be an ongoing success.

Please enjoy my photos, below.
