Pittsburgh’s “George the Mastiff” Doing Good at Home – and at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

18 Feb

George, a 250-pound Mastiff, is a hard-to-miss pooch….AND a Pitt legend who just so happened to be 1 of 2,500 dogs competing in the 2011 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show this past Monday and Tuesday.

George is 4 years old and, in 2009, was the Number 4 ranked mastiff in the entire country. Though he didn’t win this year, he has a special place in the hearts of many!

This gentle giant is a therapy dog who often visits Pitt’s “Cathedral of Learning” to cheer up weary students. He also can be seen being walked by his owners (or is it the other way around?) in Mt. Washington. George, whose show name is “American/International Champion Erieside Straight to Coalhill CGC TDIA” also works as a therapy dog at the Western PA School for the Blind and Children’s Hospital of UPMC.

His “parents” are Amy and John Coglio of Pittsburgh. They – and all of the ‘Burgh – should “pawsitively” be proud of this dapper doggie!

You can learn more about George on the website for their kennel, which is called Coalhill. Check it out, here: http://www.coalhillmastiffs.com
