Pennsylvania Native Danny Seo Talks Upcycling on Anderson

26 Oct

As a fan of Anderson Cooper’s daytime talk show, “Anderson,” I’m always intrigued by the diversity of topics covered on his show.

Recently, a show discussed the new concept of “upcycling” and featured guest and green lifestyle expert, the eco-friendly guru Danny Seo.

I was very interested in upcycling, and Googled Seo after the show only to find that he is a native of Pennsylvania. (Bucks County)

His website and books offer tips on “living green with great style.”

You can learn more about Danny, upcycling, and his (chic!) green initiatives by visiting http://www.dannyseo.com

Meet the 2011 Top 40 Under 40 of Pittsburgh

26 Oct

Every year, PUMP and Pittsburgh magazine choose honorees who are “lighting up our dynamic, caring city” and making a difference in their own unique ways.

According to Elizabeth Speed Kabus of Pittsburgh Magazine, “It’s no secret that Pittsburgh is still producing young emerging leaders with energy and drive to effect positive change in the region. And this year’s list of honorees is a powerful mix of diverse talent. This is the 13th year for 40 Under 40, and the mega-trend that encompasses all the honorees who’ve been included throughout the years is the same: Each makes Pittsburgh a better place to live, work and play. Our winners demonstrate a love and respect for our community that set an example for young people hoping to stay in Pittsburgh.”

To view the 40 honorees for 2011 and read about them, check out the full article – complete with photos – here, or pick up a print copy of the November 2011 issue of Pittsburgh Magazine, on newsstands now. Thank you for your support!

Reality TV star and best-selling author Teresa Giudice, of Real Housewives of New Jersey fame, will be in Pittsburgh on November 13th, 2011.

Pittsburgh – One of the Best Places to Visit … In the World!

26 Oct

I was intrigued an article on Monday  on the National Geographic website discussing the Top Travel Destinations in the world.

To my pleasure and surprise, Pittsburgh was one of the few cities to make the list! Traveler Magazine listed its, “Best of the World,” ranking the top places to visit and suggesting the best spots for travel in 2012.

Pittsburgh was the first city to pop up on the list. Here is what they had to say:

” Pittsburgh

Extreme Metropolitan Makeover

Three rivers. One reinvented city. On all counts, the Steel City’s transformation over the past quarter century qualifies as revolutionary. Its mourning for its industrial past long concluded, this western Pennsylvania city changed jobs and reclaimed its major assets: a natural setting that rivals Lisbon and San Francisco, a wealth of fine art and architecture, and a quirky sense of humor.

Pittsburgh’s century-wide swath of architectural styles persuaded British film director Christopher Nolan to use downtown as a stand-in for Gotham City in this summer’s Dark Knight Rises. Sustainable design has transformed Victorian landmarks like the glass-domed Phipps Conservatory and created contemporary ones like the swooping waterfront convention center.” (via National Geographic & Traveler Magazine)

Now, not only is Pittsburgh ranked one of the best places to live, but it’s now also ranked one of the best places in the world to visit, among its many other accolades!

Way to go, Pittsburgh! I’m glad to see that the rest of the world is beginning to recognize the ‘Burgh for all it has to offer.

Brad Pitt – Putting the Pitt in Pittsburgh?

22 Oct

Is Pittsburgh big enough for 2 megastars? Becoming the new Hollywood? Not only is Tom Cruise filming in the area but there may be another star in sight.

The gossip mills were churning out some good celebrity sleaze yesterday…

Rumor has it that the one and only Brad Pitt was spotted right here in downtown Pittsburgh.

Allegedly, the handsome superstar actor was seen at both the Fairmont Hotel and in the North Shore.

Thus far, there have been no certain confirmations of this, or sightings today.

Did you see Brad Pitt or do you have any info about his whereabouts or why he’s in Pittsburgh? Finishing up filming a movie, such as World War Z, or visiting for some other reason?

Tweet any sightings or info to @Glitzburgh or leave a comment! We’ll keep you posted…

PS: Pssst….did you know that Sarah Paxton recently wrapped a movie in Pittsburgh, and that hottie Bradley Cooper is filming in Upper Darby, PA?

22 Oct

Today, The Mall at Robinson celebrated their 10-year anniversary!

It’s hard to believe that already 10 years have gone by since this fabulous mall opened its doors to the North Fayette/Airport West region of Pittsburgh.

Today, the Mall at Robinson held an event at the mall called “Defining a Decade” which benefitted the Susan G. Komen foundation for a Cure. Wish 99.7 was in attendance, as was Whirl Magazine, Health America, and more. Prizes were given out long with coupons from Turkey Hill and a chance to win a trip to Key West, FL or a $1,000 mall shopping spree.

The fun, pink-themed event was held from Noon-3pm and featured music, entertainment, dancing, great giveaways, children’s activities and a silent auction to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pittsburgh.

Happy Anniversary, Mall at Robinson….from yours truly, Glitzburgh!

Tweeting with Oprah

22 Oct

As some of you know, I do health and advocacy work as well as my Glitzburgh blog.
Last week, I had an amazing surprise when one of my heroes, Oprah Winfrey herself, sent me a tweet.

The fact that the Big O took the time to read my bio and then tweet me about it? Amazing.

I would like to share….

Check it out – the 4th one down to @ArthritisAshley (one of my many other twitter accounts besides @Glitzburgh!)

Oprah said, “I read ur bio. U r a survivor and now in the the healing business. Allowing others to “emerge” from their pain.” You can see the original tweet, here.

Thank You, Pittsburgh!

Photos of the Day: Mission: Pittsburgh! Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes & Suri out and about in Schenley Park, Oakland

10 Oct

Over the weekend, Tom Cruise and wife Katie Holmes were spotted in Oakland’s Schenley Plaza njoying the carousel with daughter Suri. Zombiefest 2011 was also going on, leaving little Suri a bit unsettled. However, according to sources, Tom seemed to be in a great mood, waving to fans and onlookers as he spent the day with his family.

It seems that the Cruises have really been enjoying their time exploring Pittsburgh.
