Glitzburgh Glam: The Iconic Collection of Elizabeth Taylor

7 Dec

Elizabeth Taylor is a name synonymous with glamour, luxury, and a lush life filled with adventure and style. The legend was a star who lavished herself in all things beautiful — and for this, she has become a fashion icon who will be sorely missed. If you were a fan of the late, great Elizabeth Taylor, you can own a piece of her life’s collection — but it will cost you a pretty penny.

The Elizabeth Taylor Diamond is one of the (many) highlights of the Collection of Elizabeth Taylor that is being auctioned off at Christie’s. It is a Rectangular-Cut Diamond Ring of 33.19 carats
D color, Potentially Internally Flawless, Type IIa, and will sell for an estimated $2,500,000 – 3,500,000. There’s also the LA PEREGRINA 16th century Natural Pearl, Ruby, Diamond and Cultured Pearl Necklace, by Cartier, which should also fetch an easy $2,000,000 – 3,000,000.

Oh, is that all?

Other stunners include The Burton Wedding Bands, which were given to Elizabeth Taylor by Richard Burton upon their marriages in 1964 and 1975, and will fetch a much more affordable (ha!)  $6,000 – 8,000, and an Emile Galle  Marquetrie-Sur-Verre Glass Vase, circa 1900 with gold foil inclusions and artist signature, that should go for approximately $15,000 – 20,000.

Taylor, known most for her jewelry, was a fashion icon. Other looks that are up for auction include A Sapphire and Diamond Sautoir by BVLGARI, circa 1971, worth $600,000 – 800,000, and TWO SATELLITE SUITCASES, A NICE BEAUTY CASE AND A DEAUVILLE BEAUTY BAG by Louis Vuitton, 20th Century, at an estimated $2,500 – 3,500.

You can buy the clothes once worn by the world-famous icon, too, from a lovely  pinky-peach 2-piece CHRISTIAN DIOR EVENING ENSEMBLE worth $6,000 – 8,000, to a AN EMANUEL UNGARO RED, PINK, BROWN AND YELLOW STRIPED WOOL COAT for around $900.

Paintings by Van Gogh and others are also for sale (for millions of dollars) and you can also purchase the Deluxe Signed Limited Edition of My Love Affair With Jewelry, signed on the justification page by Elizabeth Taylor, numbered from the edition of 50 (copies 26/50-50/50 for general release) and stamped Edition A, which comes in a presentation box together with a copy of The Legendary Jewels: The Evening Sale similarly numbered and stamped Edition A. This will run you about $2,500.

Glitzburgh Glam: Carey Mulligan’s Copycat Covers

7 Dec

If you subscribe to Vogue magazine, and, perchance, happened to pick up a copy of the most recent issue of the French ELLE Magazine, you’d likely end up puzzled and surprised — with a bad case of deja-vu!

Why, you ask?

The latest cover of French ELLE is nearly identical to an October 2010 issue of Vogue magazine.

The photo, shot in 2010 in the South of France by Peter Lindbergh, features actress and fashion plate Carey Mulligan with styling by Vogue’s Grace Coddington.

The magazines are competitors, and not within the same publishing house, so the situation leaves many questions unanswered.
