MTV’s Real World: Pittsburgh Could Air in 2012

16 Dec

The 27th season of MTV’s hit show, “The Real World” is rumored to be set in Pittsburgh, PA. The Real World: Pittsburgh could air in 2012.

Although Pittsburgh has, in the past, been a casting location for The Real World, if it goes through, this will be the first season of the show that is actually set in the city, though it has long been in consideration.

A casting was held in March 2011 at Buckhead Saloon in Station Square, but the names of chosen cast members have not yet been released, nor has a definitive air date. In fact, as of today, there is no solid confirmation of Pittsburgh being the next location, other than a Wikipedia page and a lot of Twitter chatter.

That being said, it is highly likely that it will be set in Pittsburgh. Rumors have been swirling for years of a Real World: Pittsburgh, and it looks as though 2012 may be the year, as the chatter has really picked up as of late!

MTV isn’t a stranger to Pittsburgh — Chelsea of the hit show Chelsea Settles is from the area, too, hailing from Uniontown.

Real Housewives of New Jersey Star Teresa Giudice in Pittsburgh to Knock Out Cancer

14 Nov

Last night, Teresa Giudice, the reality star known for her spot in the Real Housewives of New Jersey cast, was in Pittsburgh to appear at the Knock Out Cancer event at the Galleria.

Not only did she give Glitzburgh a quick shout-out (see video, below) but she happily posed with fans at a VIP reception before the main event. After the meet-and-greet, she signed cookbooks and posed with photos with other fans who bought a copy of her latest book, Fabulicious.

Tall Cathy from 96.1 KISS interviwed Ms. Giudice on stage, where Teresa said, “Now that I’m in Pittsburgh, I’ll say, I LOVE the Steelers. Go Steelers!” which the crowd loved. She spoke candidly about her feuds with the other women and her brother, and also mentioned that her dad (who is occasionally seen on the show) is in the hospital and is in ill health.

Giudice said that she was still having problems with some of her castmates, but that she is as proud as ever of her talented and adorable daughters, and that her husband “Juicy Joe” is thinking about opening up a winery near where they live in New Jersey. “We want to host wine tastings and stuff,” she said.

This wasn’t her first time in Pittsburgh. She says that in Season 4 you see that they actually had a layover here at the Pittsburgh airport.

Later, she took to Twitter to say she loved meeting her fans from Pittsburgh and she shared some photos of the event. Knock Out Cancer featured vendors and raffles, and proceeds from the night went to support research and awareness of various forms of cancer. SHAG Salon of Robinson was on hand to do fun pink extensions for breast cancer research, local singers performed, a caricature artist did drawings, and more. A lot of fun for a great cause!

“Frank or Francis” May Bring Nic Cage, Jack Black, Steve Carell, and Kevin Kline to Pittsburgh

8 Nov

Kevin Kline, Jack Black, Steve Carell, and Nicolas Cage are reportedly set to star in a new Charlie Kaufman movie, “Frank or Francis,” a musical comedy to be filmed in Pittsburgh, PA.

Kaufman is the genius behind “Being John Malkovich,” “Adaptation,” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”

“Frank or Francis” follows very busy years in film production in Pittsburgh as of late. This summer, Pittsburgh hosted the Batman movie, “Dark Knight Rises,” and also presently filming in Pittsburgh is “One Shot,” starring Tom Cruise.

The “Frank or Francis” project seems to be all but confirmed, though an official announcement has not yet been made. According to the Pittsburgh Business Times, “New York-based production company Likely Story Inc. has been awarded a $4 million tax credit to shoot “Frank or Francis” in Allegheny County, according to public investment records with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, which oversees the state’s film tax credit program.”

The movie is set to begin filming in January or February of 2012.

Mark Zuckerberg Press Conference at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh

8 Nov

Today at 10:30 am, reporters and photographers from under 10 media outlets (including Glitzburgh!) attended a private press conference with Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and Founder of Facebook.

The press conference was held on the patio outside of the Bill Gates Center for Computer Science on the Carnegie Mellon Campus in Oakland.

This is Zuckerberg’s first trip to Pittsburgh, and he said he that he liked it here. The brief press conference preceded a speaking engagement and recruiting session to be held later today for an invite-only audience of CMU students.

Though the event itself is closed to the public and to media, Zuckerberg — known to be a bit shy and introverted — entertained a few questions at this morning’s gathering, which, unfortunately, lasted for under a minute, during which time he was pleasant but seemed a little nervous.

“First time in Pittsburgh,” he started. “How’s it going?” Zuckerberg said. He first spoke to a member of the Tartan CMU student newspaper who asked how Carnegie Mellon got chosen as one of only 3 stops on Zuckerberg’s East Coast college tour, along with MIT and Harvard. “Well, we have a lot of Carnegie Mellon alums working for Facebook,” he said. “They’re actually some of our best engineers. So when we decided to organize this trip to go see a few colleges, Carnegie Mellon was at the top of our list. So, that’s why we’re here. It’s my first time, and I’m excited to be here!”

To stand out to Facebook, students should be, “really entrepreneurial folks, people who want to desire to have a big impact on the world, people who have the ability to look at 100 different problems at once and see, okay, this is the one that we really need to solve. Facebook, we serve a lot of users and customers, more than 800 million people around the world….but, the organization is really small. We just passed the 700 engineers, so each engineer at Facebook serves over a million users themselves. ” says Mr. Zuckerberg “We really look for people who desire to have a really big impact on the world, that’s really the most important thing we look for — that, and obviously really good technical skills.”

Mark Zuckerberg laughed when a reporter asked if he conducted the interviews himself. “We have a whole process at the company. We really value teamwork, as well, so it’s really important to us that the people coming through have the opportunity to talk to a variety of folks.” He says that potential interns and employees are tested on technical skills and ability to work as a team. They also look for people who align with their values which include making an impact and connecting people. Every one who joins the company goes through a unique boot camp period to become familiarized with just how Facebook works and to get people, “ramped up on the code.”  “Sometimes, I do interviews myself. I do not interview every single person, that’s just too many. But, for certain folks, I definitely drop in and talk to them.”

He concluded with the fact that CMU engineers are, “really smart” and “have a good work ethic” before waving to those of us in attendance and turning to leave.

Zuckerberg will tour the Carnegie Mellon campus before his speech and recruiting session this afternoon.

Dean of the Gates School of Computer Science, Randall Bryant, also spoke at the press conference. He shrugged off questions about a potential Facebook research center in Pittsburgh, and stated that media would not be attending the event today because it is solely for the recruitment of CMU students to work at Facebook.

In a press release issued earlier, Brant stated “we are very excited by the prospect of hosting a visit by Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook has profoundly changed the nature of social interactions worldwide. Supporting these interactions requires massive information processing capabilities, for which Facebook has become a leader in advanced computing technology.

Enjoy! And welcome to Pittsburgh, Mr. Zuckerberg!
