True Blood Actor Joe Manganiello at Pittsburgh’s Savoy this SATURDAY!

8 Sep

How many of you ‘Burghers are ‘True Blood’ fans? (How could you NOT be, is a better question!) Join actor/resident hottie Joe Manganiello (who plays werewolf Alcide on the hit show) at SAVOY Restaurant & Lounge this SATURDAY September 10th, at 7pm.

Glitzburgh is thrilled that Joe is stopping by to try SAVOY’s (delish!) Award-Winning menu!

Manganiello – a Steelers fan –  hails from Pittsburgh. Last night, he was involved in an event with Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh — one time of many that he’s supported his hometown. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School and then went on to Carnegie Mellon University. While he’s most known at present for his critically-praised role as Alcide Herveaux on HBO’s ‘True Blood’ series, he also played Flash in the Spiderman movies, and had recurring TV roles on hit shows such as How I Met Your Mother and One Tree Hill.

So, swing by, have a Maniac Martini, and try Chef Kevin’s amazing appetizers! Hope to see you there. Check back Monday when we have all the scoop from the event!

Pittsburgh’s Joe Manganiello Returns to TRUE BLOOD this Sunday!

8 Jul

The wait is over. True Blood’s (hottest) resident Werewolf, Alcide, returns to HBO’s True Blood this Sunday.

Alcide is played by actor Joe Manganiello, and was a new addition to the supernatural series last season. Manganiello is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – specifically, Mt. Lebanon.

He has appeared in not only the wildly popular True Blood, but also the Spider Man movies, as well as TV shows How I Met Your Mother, and One Tree Hill.

Fans are pushing for an Alcide-Sookie hookup, but, according to True Blood producers, don’t count on it any time soon. Catch Manganiello in action this Sunday on HBO at 9pm.

Movie Review: Twilight Saga: ECLIPSE … Love the Books, But The Movies Leave Me Wanting More…

14 Jul

Ok … I hate to say this but…Eclipse was just “okay.”

I love the Twilight series.

Wait, strike that. Let me rephrase: I love the Twilight BOOK series.

Also – I like Kristen Stewart. I like Taylor Lautner. I like Robert Pattinson. Conceivably, I SHOULD like the movies.

They just aren’t GOOD.

Don’t get me wrong: they entertain me. I will see every single one of them. I get goosebumps when I see the trailers for the next upcoming film.

However, that’s only because I’m in love with the romance, drama, and action of the BOOKS.

I also get caught up in the hooplah, the hype, and the whole pop culture phenomenon that IS the Twilight Saga.

It almost makes me forget how average – even below average – that the movies really are.

I do not know what is lacking, because, the books have it ALL. I mean, they are AMAZING. I always feel badly for people who have only seen the movies, and who have never read the entire book series, because, they are totally, 100% missing out on something magical.

The movies “should” rock. After seeing “Remember Me,” I learned that Robert Pattinson is actually an amazing actor. I can tell, too, that Kristen Stewart is also an amazingly gifted actress who truly cares about her craft, maybe more so than any of the others. Taylor Lautner, well, who cares if he can even act or not….look at him. (All kidding aside, he seems like a decent actor, as well.) And it isn’t like the movies aren’t making money, so, they have to have an awesome budget, right?

So — the ingredients are there – the books were genius, there are good actors on board, what seems to be a nice supporting cast (Anna Kendrick was nominated for an Oscar, right? And Peter Facinelli is a good actor, what gives?) – and there should be a big budget … so what is lacking?

Am I the only person that thinks this?

I thought that the 2nd movie, New Moon, was better than this one, though this one should have had a lot more romantic tension and action than what came through on screen. Something just always seems “lost in translation” to me. I said that after the FIRST  Twilight movie.

And one more thing:

ALL OF THE FIGHT SCENES IN THE TWILIGHT MOVIES ARE EXQUISITELY LAME. Come on! I get it, gotta keep a PG-13 rating for the kiddos, but CUT ME A BREAK. Super lame. Corny. Times TEN. No….times infinity!

Don’t get me wrong – there were some OMG amazingly romantic, butterfly-inducing moments in Eclipse. I’m still in love with Edward but crossed over to be borderline Team Jacob in this movie and found myself, on occasion, so wanting to BE Bella that it wasn’t even funny. I’m still a Twihard. I don’t mean to betray my kind. It’s just … I wanted it to be MORE than it was.

Maybe I’m just watching too much True Blood? Or has Vampire Diaries clouded my mind? Did I just hype it up too much in my head?

Thoughts?

Ok, I’m going to go read Midnight Sun now.  Please don’t send the Volturi after me.

Quickie Randomosity: Earthquake Aftershock in Pittsburgh, Pirates Pierogi Gets Rehired, USA Loses World Cup, Britney, Gaga, Eclipse, and PHOTO OF THE DAY: Let’s GO!

27 Jun

This blog is a quickie mash-up of some local and national randomosities of the week…. ready, set, go…

1)   There was a 5.5 magnitude earthquake along the Canadian Ontario-Quebec border that was felt all the way down here in, yes, Pittsburgh! Aftershocks were reported in the South Side, Oakland, Aspinwall, Swissvale, Homestead, and Newscastle, and also in West Virginia, New York, and Ohio! Some buildings in the South Side. Oakland, and downtown Pittsburgh were evacuated as a safety precaution.

  2) I wrote a Glitzburgh blog about the Pittsburgh Pirates organization firing one of the racing Pierogi mascots for blasting the team’s managment (and less-than-stellar record) on his personal Facebook page. (I also had a commentor inform me that a “pierogi did not get fired.  One of the 20 people who dress up as a pierogi got fired.” So thank you, to whoever wrote that, for clearing that one up!)  Well, get this. Not only was this fella offered a job as a Washington Wild Things HOT DOG (score!) but, the Pirates organization also had to re-hire the Pierogi (also known as Andrew Kurtz)  According to the Associated Press, “Pirates communications director Brian Warecki says team management learned of the firing on Friday and promptly offered Kurtz his job back because he shouldn’t have been terminated in the first place. He added that bad publicity played no part in the decision.”  (Riiight! You know my blog did it. Admit it! Hehehe.) The best part of the story is that ESPN basically reported that the Pirates “had to rehire him” because they “didn’t fire him properly.”   Turns out that the Buccos hit a whole new level of pathetic with that one. But, if Kurtz did accept the offer, WELCOME BACK to the PIEROGI TEAM, ol’ fella!

3) Sadly, the United States lost their FIFA World Cup match against Ghana yesterday. Also sadly, I won’t pretend that I am a diehard “futbol” fan, or a fan at all, really. I never was in to soccer, o I didn’t want to be a “faker” and just jump on the proverbial bandwagon, sbut, I did mosy on home from the pool yesterday to watch about half of the game. I did feel actual emotion that we lost, surprisingly, as it was a true disappointment. I was hoping for another miraculous down-to-the-wire comeback like Donovan pulled off on Wednesday, but, I guess asking for a 3rd comeback would hae been just TOO much. Well, good job, boys, nonetheless! You made it pretty darn far and did pretty darn well. Gotta hand it to Ghana for their incredible STALLING and ACTING abilities at the end of yesterday’s game….I’ll give them that.  But in all sincerety, United States, you played your butts off (from what I actually watched) in the World Cup and deserve a big congratulations and a big hug. Kudos. I won’t be watching any more of the World Cup games now that the USA is out of it, will you? If so, who are you all rooting for?   I’m just praying that I’ll never have to hear a vuvuzela again. Please.

4)  Reports are swirling that Britney Spears is going behind Jason Trawick’s back and reaching out to Adnan Ghalib again. I don’t have much more to say on this topic except PLEASE GOD NO. No!  If this true, we can expect to see the pink wig and no-panties shots coming out soon, and it’s all we can do but to hope to not see her strapped to a gurney within a year. I’m really hoping that Daddy’s conservatorship hasn’t made her come to this. (And I say this with all sincerity, I’m really pulling for her, because, yes, I happen to be a huge Britney fan!)

5)  Did you all hear Jerry Seinfeld’s comments about Lady Gaga? He called her a “jerk” and said that he “hates” her.  First off, very mature, Mr. Seinfeld. Secondly….um, earth to Jerry Seinfeld: you SO are not relevant anymore…and, in all sincerity…your show really WAS about nothing…and NOT that funny.

6) Twilight: Eclipse premieres June 30th! Yay!  Critics are calling it not only the BEST of the Twilight Saga but also one of the best movies of the summer! (I sure hope so, because, I love the Twilight books, but, the movies never do them justice!)   What do you think, Twihards? Will it top the other two? And what are you doing for the premiere?

Pssst…speaking of the Twilight Saga….Pittsburghers, Taylor Lautner is set to start filming his new movie right here in Da’ Burgh, soon! Word is that it will likely begin filming in the neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill and Shadyside within the next month AND they are now casting for extras! Don’t forget that Glitzburgh broke the news of this movie, Abduction, right away, back in  MAY!

Real Life Vampire? Twilight’s Robert Pattinson is Related to Vlad the Impaler – the Human Inspiration for Dracula!

24 Jun

It’s no wonder that playing sexy vampire Edward Cullen comes so naturally to this Twilight hunk!

It is being reported that Robert Pattinson is actually a distant relative of Vlad the Impaler, who was the real life inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula,  arguably the most famous vampire in history. (Well, until now, some Twihards may say!)

Genealogists from Ancestry.com did the research and say that Pattinson descends from British royalty who are distantly related to the 15th-century Translyvanian leader Vlad the Impaler who’s real name was Vlad 3 Dracula.

Another fun fact? Pattinson is also a distant cousin of Prince Harry and Prince William … but that’s not nearly as eerie – or as hot – as him having some vamp blood in his system 😉

Twilight Saga Author Stephenie Meyer To Release Supplemental Eclipse Novella in June: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

30 Mar

More good news for Twihards!

Stephenie Meyer, author of the best-selling pop-culture phenomenon the Twilight Saga, announced today that she’s releasing a supplemental novella called, “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner.”

The book will be considered a “companion” piece to the Twilight saga, specifically, the Twilight: Eclipse film and will be available in bookstores June 5th, 2010, as well as online at www.BreeTanner.com.

When I heard about this book, I was a little more than confused. I had no idea who Bree Tanner was, and, I’m guessing that many of you do not have a clue, either.

It turns out that Bree Tanner appeared in the Eclipse novel, briefly, before being killed off 10 pages later. She was apparently one of the newborn vampires and was killed off in Victoria’s war against the Cullens and the Quiluete tribe. This novella will tell the story from her perspective. Stephenie Meyer always wondered what it would be like from the newborn vampire’s point of view. She started writing this while working on the Eclipse book and it was initially meant for, if anything, the Twilight Saga Official Guide.

In fact, Meyer never anticipated this book as being a stand-alone work…but, alas, here it is! You can buy it in bookstores in June, or read it for free online for a limited time. Here are two websites for further detail:
