9 Apr

There are always some nifty events going on in and around the ‘Burgh. Here are just a few that are coming up this weekend and next week….

The “Long Ash Club” in Pittsburgh (across from the Benedum Theatre on Penn Ave.)  is having a 2-night Cigar Rolling Event / Cigar Tasting Party, featuring, aside from cigars, of course, a Cuban-style menu and Cuban drinks. This event is free and open to the public. For more info or for reservations call  Renée at 412.281.6290.

Art in Bloom – The Women’s Committee of the Carnegie Mellon Museum of Art has organized Art in Bloom, which features fine art paired with gorgeous, fresh flowers. This event is going on from April 8th-April 10th, 2010.

Stepping into Spring Fashion Show at Duquesne University – April 11th, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. Held at Duquesne University, this annual event is sponsored by the University Women’s Guild and includes a luncheon while featuring women’s and children’s fashions from Macy’s. Sally Wiggin from WTAE will also be there!

Fashions for Kids’ Sake at Carlow University – Thursday, April 15th, at 6:30pm – Features  various designers from the Pittsburgh boutiques Decade, Figleaf, Jupe Boutique and Sugar.

Lawrenceville LittleFlea – Enjoy this outdoor marketplace in Lawrenceville at the corner of Butler St. and 36th from 8am-3pm on Saturdays this season. Enjoy vendors, craft items, thrift and vintage finds, cultural experiences, food, a flea market, and more. Visit http://lawrencevillelittleflea.blogspot.com/ for more info!

The Wilco concert is this Sunday at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland.

Also … don’t forget: The Shrine Circus is now in Town and the Autism Speaks lunch is Saturday at Heinz Field, along with the Riverside Run on Saturday for the Jenesis Foundation. So much to do, so little time in a weekend! What will you choose?

…and what else is going on in Pittsburgh? Let me know! 🙂

What’s the Haps this Weekend? – From Playboy and Warhol to Carmen and the Women’s Expo

26 Mar

“There’s nothing to do.”

Wrong!

There is…and if you look hard enough, there ALWAYS is.

I personally will be out of commission this weekend due to surgery. However, I encourage all of you to go have some fun on my behalf. While there are plenty more events going on (and many useful online event calendars to prove it) I’ve selected a few unique ones that I think are pretty swell and worth mentioning.

1) The Playboy Pajama Party at the Andy Warhol Museum: “Join the Warhol Museum in celebrating their four new eye-opening exhibitions in true Playboy style…pajamas encouraged.”  Visit http://www.warhol.org for details. This event is Saturday, March 27, 2010.

2) The final showings of the beloved opera, Carmen, are this Friday and Saturday. We have such rich arts right here in the ‘Burgh – why not take advantage of it? Visit http://www.pittsburghopera.org for details.

3) The Women’s Expo in Greensburg – Join hundreds of women at the Sheraton in Greensburg this Saturday, March 27th, for a day of entertainment, education, and exhibits to enhance lives of women all across the region. 10am-1pm at the Four Points in Sheraton, Greensburg, PA.

4) Pittsburgh Wine Festival Presents “Wine from Down Under” – Attend a wine tasting at The Sewickley Cafe, thisSunday, March 28th, from 4:45pm-7:00pm. Good times!

5) the 4th Annual “Goin’ to the Dogs Beef & Bone Dinner” in Slippery Rock. This fundraiser benefits dog rescues in the area. It begins at 5:30pm and will be held at North Country Brewing.

As I said, there are many more.

BTW ~~ Did anyone catch the Train concert tonight at Carnegie Music Hall?

How was it?
