Quickie Randomosity: Earthquake Aftershock in Pittsburgh, Pirates Pierogi Gets Rehired, USA Loses World Cup, Britney, Gaga, Eclipse, and PHOTO OF THE DAY: Let’s GO!

27 Jun

This blog is a quickie mash-up of some local and national randomosities of the week…. ready, set, go…

1)   There was a 5.5 magnitude earthquake along the Canadian Ontario-Quebec border that was felt all the way down here in, yes, Pittsburgh! Aftershocks were reported in the South Side, Oakland, Aspinwall, Swissvale, Homestead, and Newscastle, and also in West Virginia, New York, and Ohio! Some buildings in the South Side. Oakland, and downtown Pittsburgh were evacuated as a safety precaution.

  2) I wrote a Glitzburgh blog about the Pittsburgh Pirates organization firing one of the racing Pierogi mascots for blasting the team’s managment (and less-than-stellar record) on his personal Facebook page. (I also had a commentor inform me that a “pierogi did not get fired.  One of the 20 people who dress up as a pierogi got fired.” So thank you, to whoever wrote that, for clearing that one up!)  Well, get this. Not only was this fella offered a job as a Washington Wild Things HOT DOG (score!) but, the Pirates organization also had to re-hire the Pierogi (also known as Andrew Kurtz)  According to the Associated Press, “Pirates communications director Brian Warecki says team management learned of the firing on Friday and promptly offered Kurtz his job back because he shouldn’t have been terminated in the first place. He added that bad publicity played no part in the decision.”  (Riiight! You know my blog did it. Admit it! Hehehe.) The best part of the story is that ESPN basically reported that the Pirates “had to rehire him” because they “didn’t fire him properly.”   Turns out that the Buccos hit a whole new level of pathetic with that one. But, if Kurtz did accept the offer, WELCOME BACK to the PIEROGI TEAM, ol’ fella!

3) Sadly, the United States lost their FIFA World Cup match against Ghana yesterday. Also sadly, I won’t pretend that I am a diehard “futbol” fan, or a fan at all, really. I never was in to soccer, o I didn’t want to be a “faker” and just jump on the proverbial bandwagon, sbut, I did mosy on home from the pool yesterday to watch about half of the game. I did feel actual emotion that we lost, surprisingly, as it was a true disappointment. I was hoping for another miraculous down-to-the-wire comeback like Donovan pulled off on Wednesday, but, I guess asking for a 3rd comeback would hae been just TOO much. Well, good job, boys, nonetheless! You made it pretty darn far and did pretty darn well. Gotta hand it to Ghana for their incredible STALLING and ACTING abilities at the end of yesterday’s game….I’ll give them that.  But in all sincerety, United States, you played your butts off (from what I actually watched) in the World Cup and deserve a big congratulations and a big hug. Kudos. I won’t be watching any more of the World Cup games now that the USA is out of it, will you? If so, who are you all rooting for?   I’m just praying that I’ll never have to hear a vuvuzela again. Please.

4)  Reports are swirling that Britney Spears is going behind Jason Trawick’s back and reaching out to Adnan Ghalib again. I don’t have much more to say on this topic except PLEASE GOD NO. No!  If this true, we can expect to see the pink wig and no-panties shots coming out soon, and it’s all we can do but to hope to not see her strapped to a gurney within a year. I’m really hoping that Daddy’s conservatorship hasn’t made her come to this. (And I say this with all sincerity, I’m really pulling for her, because, yes, I happen to be a huge Britney fan!)

5)  Did you all hear Jerry Seinfeld’s comments about Lady Gaga? He called her a “jerk” and said that he “hates” her.  First off, very mature, Mr. Seinfeld. Secondly….um, earth to Jerry Seinfeld: you SO are not relevant anymore…and, in all sincerity…your show really WAS about nothing…and NOT that funny.

6) Twilight: Eclipse premieres June 30th! Yay!  Critics are calling it not only the BEST of the Twilight Saga but also one of the best movies of the summer! (I sure hope so, because, I love the Twilight books, but, the movies never do them justice!)   What do you think, Twihards? Will it top the other two? And what are you doing for the premiere?

Pssst…speaking of the Twilight Saga….Pittsburghers, Taylor Lautner is set to start filming his new movie right here in Da’ Burgh, soon! Word is that it will likely begin filming in the neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill and Shadyside within the next month AND they are now casting for extras! Don’t forget that Glitzburgh broke the news of this movie, Abduction, right away, back in  MAY!

Britney Spears Splits with Agent-Boyfriend Jason Trawick – Professionally, That is…

14 May

Britney Spears recently broke up with her boyfriend, Jason Trawick….not romantically, though.

She’s been dating him for about a year now, but one minor issue has always stood in the way: Trawick is also her manager, which, in some people’s opinions, could be a conflict of interests, of sorts.

To avoid any such problems, they’ve decided to part ways professionally, and Spears is dumping him as her manager so that they can focus on taking their relationship to the next level. Cue the “awwwww’s!”

In other Spears news, she’s currently shooting a new Candies ad, working on some new tracks, and, still denying that the leaked pre-Gaga “Telephone” demo was hers.

(What do you think?)

She’s appearing to be fit, healthy, and happy, (see photo, May 10, 2010) and, apparently, Fox is still in talks to do a Britney Spears GLEE episode! Here’s hoping!

Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kim Zolciak Comes Out…

28 Mar

Yes, while I read classic literature, I also watch some trash television which I consider “guilty pleasure” TV … and one of these shows just happens to be the “Real Housewives” series.

The Atlanta cast was full of fun, feuds, and fierce feistiness (how’s THAT for some nice alliteration?!?)

One of the most controversial – and one of my favorite – cast members was Kim Zolciak. (Who recently said cheating hubby Jesse James should be “castrated” by wife Sandra Bullock! LoL)

Aspiring recording artist and former model Kim, known for her wigs, lavish lifestyle, and mysterious fiancee, “Big Poppa” always had some sort of drama going on her life. (But, then again, which Real Housewives cast member doesn’t?)

Whether it was her breakdown on the reunion show over losing her hair (was she, or was she not sick?!?) to her knock-down drag out fights with NeNe and Sheree among others, there was always something irritating someone about this blonde bombshell.

Akin to “Speidi” with her ploys for attention, she has now become a tabloid – and a fan – favorite.

However, she’ll now be reaching out to an even more diverse audience: not only did Zolciak pose (topless!) in the famous NOH8 campaign in a show of support for gay marriage rights; but in this week’s issue of Life & Style Magazine, Kim Zolciak came out, announcing that she is, in fact, bisexual. During the recording process of her hit dance single, “Tardy for the Party”, she fell in love with one of the producers…who happened to be a female DJ named Tracy Young.

Kim has a healthy view on her sexuality and believes that “love has no gender” and she won’t let neither a woman nor a man define her. Her relationship with Tracy lasted several months and now her and “Big Poppa” (who has finally been revealed as still-not-legally-divorced businessman Lee Najjar) are back on. While both Poppa and Kim were surprised at how her romantic life during her break from him unfolded, Kim loves Tracy as a person and does not regret the loving and caring relationship that they shared.

Kim calls claims that she had the relationship for “publicity” reasons  “absolutely disgusting” and said it was about the relationship and the companionship.

Zociak isn’t the only famous female who has announced that she is bisexual. Will and Grace actress Megan Mullally came out in The Advocate and thinks that “everyone is innately bisexual.” Famously, Lindsay Lohan, Angelina Jolie, and Anne Heche have been in high-profile relationships with both men and women, and relative newcomers Megan Fox and Lady GaGa have also admitted to being attracted to both men and women.

The Year of the Cheating Heart (Talking to you, Tiger, Jesse, Reggie…the list goes on…)

26 Mar

South Park did a spoof on it. It is a “Hot Topic” on The View almost daily. What, you ask?

Famous leading cheating men. (See their ‘sex addiction’ spoof here. Mature content. But funny.)

There’s been political scandal after political scandal – John Edwards, Mark Sanford, and Elliot Spitzer to name a few.

There’s been celebrity breakups all over the news, fueled by men cheating on their significant others — most recently, David Letterman, Tiger Woods, Jesse James, and, now, possibly Reggie Bush.

Sure, it’s also the year of the IDIOT man, too (Chris Brown, anyone? Kanye West? I’m sure I’m forgetting others, lol!) and the “alleged” idiot men (Ben Roethlisberger, anyone? Sorry. I’m a diehard Steelers fan, but guilty or innocent, he puts himself in one precarious and irresponsible situation after another. but the whole “wandering eye” thing in particular has been taken to a whole new level of disrespect, and, if you ask me, a whole new level of pathetic.

Is sex addiction real? Sure. Is it an excuse for every time a wealthy or famous person cheats? No.

Are some of these mistresses’ tales just paid-for tabloid fodder without a grain of truth? Sure. Are most of their claims true, though? My guess is that it’s very likely.

Unfortunately, in my humble opinion, many men are prone to stray, anyway. Add money, power, and fame into the mix and the whole situation just becomes the proverbial recipe for disaster. The always-growing egos and endless sense of entitlement that these people in the limelight face can’t make it easy to resist temptation. However, I do not think that fame and celebrity gives anyone a right to balk on their moral code of conduct. It is so disrespectful!

And these people aren’t having one slip-up. For many of them, it’s woman after woman. Sometimes, there’s even some babymaking involved. Always, there is a scandal involved. What happened to commitment, loyalty, trust, respect, and common courtesy? Can Cheetah Woods redeem himself? Can Jesse James really claim that he TRULY LOVES Sandra Bullock?

As much as I envy the lifestyles of the rich and famous, I do feel bad for some of these women. No one deserves the heart- wrenching shock that an affair can bring. It is like these guys have blinders on; blithely ignoring the feelings and emotions of their partner. To me, it is heartless, and, above all, inconsiderate. Humiliating. A disgrace to their loved ones, a tarnish to their image, and I believe that this type of behavior makes a mockery of solid and loving, committed, and healthy relationships.

After all, in this country we idolize celebrities. But just because the stars are screwing up doesn’t mean all men are so-called sex addicts with 10 mistresses and BlackBerries filled with naughty text messages. Additionally, I’m sure there are women out there, too, who are involved in these types of scandals. (There’s either not as many … or they simply are a little more crafty about not getting caught.)

Either way, to me, it boils down to this. For one, these men are jerks. I mean, cheating on America’s Sweetheart? With a risqué tattoo model? Really? (I mean, I have 3 tattoos, but to me, Sandra is just the epitome of sweetness, class, and grace.)  Sandra Bullock seemed SO genuinely in love with Jesse James….and in turn, everybody loves HER. And cheating on a Swedish Supermodel? Umm….golf club wielding or not, what hope does that give the rest of us normal girls? Now, I hear (as-of-now) unconfirmed reports that Reggie Bush may have been having an affair while dating Kim Kardashian, who, despite being famous for nothing, I adore. Are these rumors? Regardless, they HAVE indeed, split, or are at least taking a break. John Edwards has a baby to his mistress while cheating on his cancer-stricken wife. That’s classy. Sanford calls his “other woman” his “soulmate”….that had to make the woman he vowed his life to feel just fabulous! It’s all such a shame.

These women need to focus on loving themselves first, picking up the pieces and moving forward. I just hope that this type of behavior doesn’t become a trend. While infidelity exists in all walks of life, its one celebrity fad I don’t want to totally infiltrate the mainstream. If people are unhappy, why cheat? End the relationship, part and go your separate ways, and THEN – and only then – go do your own thing. It’s a lot less painful than “having your cake and eating it, too” … with 5, 6, 7, or 12 different women. (Tiger.)

What do you think – something in the water these past few years?

** Have you heard the Reggie Bush / Kim K. rumors? Do you think that it is true? What about Jesse James’ alleged 3 more mistresses coming forward? Happy that Tiger is returning to golf?  Which breakup/affair is the worst and/or most shocking to you? I’d love to hear your comments! **

Welcome to Glitzburgh – About the Blogger:

24 Mar

My name is Ashley and I’m a 26-year-old young gal living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – a fact that I used to bemoan, but that I now truly love. Pittsburgh has been blossoming in the areas of technology, environmentalism, and, most of all, the entertainment industry, and in this blog, I’ll discuss these facts and much more. From the local hot topics to the national ones, I’ll be writing about stories in the news and my personal thoughts and opinions on current happenings in the entertainment and news media…as well as whatever else I feel like writing abut. So, I may as well let you all have a glimpse into the complicated being that is, me.

I am, among other things: a blogger, aspiring author, sometime model, fashionista-on-a-budget, autoimmune illness sufferer, pug-and-parakeet mama, lover-not-a-fighter, writer, once-aspiring fashion designer, Starbucks consumer, Justin Timberlake fangirl, Lady Gaga fanatic, Steelers fan for life, Sex and the City lover, comma queen, yoga-doer, gluten-free girl, bookworm, new media nerd, wine-drinker, TV-and-film junkie, fan of dorky glasses, appreciator of Barbie, vampires, the Victorian era, and all things Italian, fan of flea markets and vintage stores, and guilty reader of tabloids.

I own a home with my boyfriend in Pittsburgh, and love him, along with my family and friends dearly. I work for a nonprofit by day (whom I also blog for) and am also a freelance writer on the side. I’m interested in sociology, spirituality and theology, love inspiring quotes, love animals (especially dogs), and cannot pass up a good cup of tea. I love taking pictures and even like having my photo taken. I adore fashion (did I mention that yet?) I love a good chick flick as much as an awesome superhero movie and I am a bit of a geek at heart. I tear up at sad commercials, happy endings, romantic scenes, and inspiring stories … and I am as corny as they come. If I do say so myself, I’m not readily able to be stereotyped, nor do I appreciate being prejudged or pigeonholed. So, I hope you’ll all enjoy reading my blog as well as getting to know me along the way.

Basically, I’m just me – a little odd and quirky, but with a heart of gold. I hate liars and close-minded people. I love dogs and shoes. And Oprah. I’m borderline-obsessed with all things artsy, and with the entertainment industry in general. From high-brow literature to low-brow reality television, I’m in. And, likewise, I’m here to blog about it.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Welcome to Glitzburgh.
