Pittsburgh-Filmed ‘Abduction’ Premieres Today

23 Sep

Today is the much-anticipated release of the movie, “Abduction.” Anticipated by whom, you ask? Well, Taylor Lautner fangirls (and boys) and Pittsburgh alike have been awaiting the release of this film.

The movie was filmed in Pittsburgh last summer and the story is also based here in Da’ Burgh as well. Shoot locations include Mt. Lebanon, PNC Park, and more.

I was an extra/background actor in the flick, and though I missed the VIP Fan Premiere/Sneak Peak Advance Viewing last week in Monaca, I will be seeing the movie this weekend to see if I can spot myself and/or any familiar locations!

So, if you are looking for something to do on this rainy Pittsburgh weekend, I suggest you go see Abduction — whether you are a member of Team Jacob or Steeler Nation, the scenery surely won’t disappoint! 😉

Calling All Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie Fans! Get @HilaryBeeC to Glitz with us in Da’ Burgh!!

15 Nov

Dear Hilary Duff: I’m talking to you, missy! 😉

I’m on a mission to get actress/singer/entrepreneur/writer/fashionista/cutie Hilary Duff Comrie to do an interview with Glitzburgh, now that she has Pittsburgh ties!

Duff’s husband, Mike Comrie, plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins and I’d love to get them to sit down and do a rare joint interview!  (or, a one-on-one – I’ll take what I can get….)

Hilary is skidaddling about the country promoting her new book, Elixir, and so she may be a hard lady to get in touch with.

But, I love the gal and would be beyond honored if she’d get in touch with her newfound “Pittsburghness” and glitz with us!

(Or, at the very least – Hilary: please do a book signing or meet-and-greet in Pittsburgh!)

Do you all want to see Glitzburgh interviewing Hilary? If so, tweet her at @HilarybeeC and help me try to get her on board!

PS: Check out her recent tweet –  “Got my hat on representing and ready for a win tonight!!! Let’s go pens!!” + PHOTO: click here.

Pittsburgh’s Awesome, Yet Again – Top Philanthropic City in the US and 7th Best City to Raise a Family!

11 Jun

Within the past few years, Pittsburgh’s gotten named to list after list – and for good reason – we’re an awesome place to live!

Most recently, “Da’ Burgh” has been lauded with two pretty fabulous honors: we’ve been named the top philanthropic city in the United States, and, the 7th best city in the country in which to raise a family.

According to “Charity Navigator,” a nonprofit that ranks over 5,500 charities nationwide, and takes a number of factors into consideration, Pittsburgh ranks #1 in the list of “giving” cities. Last year, we were #4 on its annual list of philanthropic places.

Another list from Forbes Magazine chose 10 cities from the entire country as the Top 10 Places to raise a family. Taken into consideration were issues such as cost of living, safety and crime rate, environment, and education. To place on this list out of so many cities to chose from nationally is quite an honor. We placed 7th on this list of 10  places to raise a family in America.

It is noteworthy, too, that on a Forbes list earlier this year, Pittsburgh was ranked the number one “most livable city” in America – and it wasn’t the first time.

Pittsburgh’s just fab.

What else can ya say?  😉

Review: Romantically Challenged ~ A “Pittsburgh” Based Sitcom? The Red Foam Finger Stuck Out Like a Sore Thumb!

1 May

Romantically Challenged (Alyssa Milano’s new ABC sitcom, “set in Pittsburgh”) is … cute. Mildly cute.

However, for being set in Pittsburgh, it doesn’t “feel” very…. “Pittsburgh” to me.

First of all, the city has only been mentioned once (that I could count) in two episodes. (Last week, a waiter said he was returning to his previous job with the Pittsburgh Police Department.) That’s fine and all, but, when they show fleeting outdoors shots, it doesn’t “look” like Pittsburgh to me, either.

Why “set” a series in a city if you aren’t going to “play into” that city?

(Additionally, to me, the show is trying too hard to be “Friends”, which, it clearly isn’t. There IS a coffee-shop hangout. There ISN’T the Rachel-Ross-Phoebe-Monica-Chandler-Joey chemistry and humor.)

It’s just … somehow LACKING to me. I feel like that if the show could really bring some LIFE and some CHARACTER into it, really SHOW people what Pittsburgh IS, then it may have a chance at being a success. (Since it IS ‘based’ in Pittsburgh, and all….supposedly.)

To me, it just doesn’t seem to have the right type of humor, the right type of camaraderie, the right type of characters. Something seems a little off.

The coffee shop is not “hometown” enough. The taxis throw me off. The red foam finger in the last episode was all wrong. What Pittsburgh team is RED? Why would someone living in Pittsburgh have a RED foam finger? Grr.

The whole thing just reeks of L.A people.-displaced-in-NY-pretending-to-be-in-Pittsburgh.

The show has a chance…maybe. Alyssa Milano is ADORABLE. But, ehh….I dunno. Mediocre at best?

Maybe they should cast some REAL Pittsburghers in it and show ’em how it’s DONE in Da’ Burgh!!!!! 🙂

Thoughts?
