“Frank or Francis” May Bring Nic Cage, Jack Black, Steve Carell, and Kevin Kline to Pittsburgh

8 Nov

Kevin Kline, Jack Black, Steve Carell, and Nicolas Cage are reportedly set to star in a new Charlie Kaufman movie, “Frank or Francis,” a musical comedy to be filmed in Pittsburgh, PA.

Kaufman is the genius behind “Being John Malkovich,” “Adaptation,” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”

“Frank or Francis” follows very busy years in film production in Pittsburgh as of late. This summer, Pittsburgh hosted the Batman movie, “Dark Knight Rises,” and also presently filming in Pittsburgh is “One Shot,” starring Tom Cruise.

The “Frank or Francis” project seems to be all but confirmed, though an official announcement has not yet been made. According to the Pittsburgh Business Times, “New York-based production company Likely Story Inc. has been awarded a $4 million tax credit to shoot “Frank or Francis” in Allegheny County, according to public investment records with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, which oversees the state’s film tax credit program.”

The movie is set to begin filming in January or February of 2012.

Brad Pitt – Putting the Pitt in Pittsburgh?

22 Oct

Is Pittsburgh big enough for 2 megastars? Becoming the new Hollywood? Not only is Tom Cruise filming in the area but there may be another star in sight.

The gossip mills were churning out some good celebrity sleaze yesterday…

Rumor has it that the one and only Brad Pitt was spotted right here in downtown Pittsburgh.

Allegedly, the handsome superstar actor was seen at both the Fairmont Hotel and in the North Shore.

Thus far, there have been no certain confirmations of this, or sightings today.

Did you see Brad Pitt or do you have any info about his whereabouts or why he’s in Pittsburgh? Finishing up filming a movie, such as World War Z, or visiting for some other reason?

Tweet any sightings or info to @Glitzburgh or leave a comment! We’ll keep you posted…

PS: Pssst….did you know that Sarah Paxton recently wrapped a movie in Pittsburgh, and that hottie Bradley Cooper is filming in Upper Darby, PA?

Pittsburgh-Filmed ‘Abduction’ Premieres Today

23 Sep

Today is the much-anticipated release of the movie, “Abduction.” Anticipated by whom, you ask? Well, Taylor Lautner fangirls (and boys) and Pittsburgh alike have been awaiting the release of this film.

The movie was filmed in Pittsburgh last summer and the story is also based here in Da’ Burgh as well. Shoot locations include Mt. Lebanon, PNC Park, and more.

I was an extra/background actor in the flick, and though I missed the VIP Fan Premiere/Sneak Peak Advance Viewing last week in Monaca, I will be seeing the movie this weekend to see if I can spot myself and/or any familiar locations!

So, if you are looking for something to do on this rainy Pittsburgh weekend, I suggest you go see Abduction — whether you are a member of Team Jacob or Steeler Nation, the scenery surely won’t disappoint! 😉

Batman Wraps, and the Dark Knight Thanks Da’ Burgh!

22 Aug

The filming of Batman movie, “The Dark Knight” has wrapped. Sorry, Pittsburgh — there will be no more snow-in-August or Batmobile sightings around town, no more rubbernecking at work to get a peek at the set or a star-sighting on your lunch break.

It will be exciting to see Pittsburgh as “Gotham” on the big screen, and, while us Pittsburgh residents are thankful to the production for choosing us as the locale, it seems as though the cast and crew of The Dark Knight are grateful to us, too.

Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows Part 2 – REVIEW

15 Jul

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the midnight premiere of the final installment of the Harry Potter movie series, the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

We saw it in 3D, in the VIP section, and so, it was bound to be good, regardless. But – as a “Potter” virgin (yes, I’ve NEVER read the books or seen the other films!) I didn’t know just what to expect.

To my (pleasant) surprise, I enjoyed the film! It was action-packed and entertaining, and I knew enough about the franchise to be able to understand the plot and catch on to what was going on. So, even being a newbie, this is a movie that, if you like movies, you’ll enjoy.

Definitely of “blockbuster” caliber (I mean, it SHATTERED midnight box office records!) this is a must-see for the whole family. It made me want to go back and watch the other films, too. The crowd was great, many donning costumes and/or decked out head-to-toe in Harry Potter gear — and I am sure that it was a bittersweet experience for these loyal fans.

But, even for “bandwagon” fans like myself, it was a great experience. The movie was playing on multiple screens and was completely sold out. I never thought at 2:35am that I’d be stuck in “Harry Potter traffic” — but, alas, I was.  The movie garnered $32 million in advance ticket sales alone, all-in-all grossing a whopping $43.5 million last night — an astonishing new record.

I’d say that it is definitely worth checking out; and the 3-D experience on this one added to the fun.

Enjoy — let me know if you “get your Potter on” this weekend, and what you think of the flick!

3-D Glasses, Harry Potter-style! 🙂

Will Freeze on State Film Tax Credit Freeze Out Dark Knight and Other Movie Productions?

18 Feb

There is currently a freeze on Pennsylvania’s film tax credit program – and this freeze on remaining funds could cause Pittsburgh an other Pennsylvania locations to miss out on many film opportunities including the highly anticipated Batman sequel, “Dark Knight Rises,” which was reported to start filming in Pittsburgh this summer.

So far, producers of Batman and 2 other productions set to be filmed in Pittsburgh have reportedly threatened to back out and shoot elsewhere if the money is not released.

Local media and casting agencies are encouraging citizens to contact local lawmakers and government to keep the productions in town. ilm productions had been receiving a 25 percent credit for spending at least 60 percent of their production budget in the state, which is the amount “The Dark Knight Rises” has been rumored to film in Pittsburgh.

The PA film tax credit program is presently on hold until the Pennsylvania state budget is passed next month. This could cost the city and state mega-bucks if these big-money productions choose another locale.

Movie productions filmed in Pittsburgh had been receiving a 25 percent credit for spending 60% or more of their production budget in Pennsylvania. Though Warner Bros. are yet to officially announce filming locations for “The Dark Knight Rises,” it was reported that this would likely be the amount spent in Pittsburgh.

As no formal announcements have been made regarding the movie, there is still hope for it and others. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the film tax credit mess can get straightened out. Not only is it big business for Pittsburgh, but it is likewise exciting to see our hometown on the big screen!
