Real Housewives of New Jersey Star Teresa Giudice in Pittsburgh to Knock Out Cancer

14 Nov

Last night, Teresa Giudice, the reality star known for her spot in the Real Housewives of New Jersey cast, was in Pittsburgh to appear at the Knock Out Cancer event at the Galleria.

Not only did she give Glitzburgh a quick shout-out (see video, below) but she happily posed with fans at a VIP reception before the main event. After the meet-and-greet, she signed cookbooks and posed with photos with other fans who bought a copy of her latest book, Fabulicious.

Tall Cathy from 96.1 KISS interviwed Ms. Giudice on stage, where Teresa said, “Now that I’m in Pittsburgh, I’ll say, I LOVE the Steelers. Go Steelers!” which the crowd loved. She spoke candidly about her feuds with the other women and her brother, and also mentioned that her dad (who is occasionally seen on the show) is in the hospital and is in ill health.

Giudice said that she was still having problems with some of her castmates, but that she is as proud as ever of her talented and adorable daughters, and that her husband “Juicy Joe” is thinking about opening up a winery near where they live in New Jersey. “We want to host wine tastings and stuff,” she said.

This wasn’t her first time in Pittsburgh. She says that in Season 4 you see that they actually had a layover here at the Pittsburgh airport.

Later, she took to Twitter to say she loved meeting her fans from Pittsburgh and she shared some photos of the event. Knock Out Cancer featured vendors and raffles, and proceeds from the night went to support research and awareness of various forms of cancer. SHAG Salon of Robinson was on hand to do fun pink extensions for breast cancer research, local singers performed, a caricature artist did drawings, and more. A lot of fun for a great cause!

ABC to film ‘Everyday Health’ at Pittsburgh Salon

30 Aug

ABC will be in town Thursday, September 1st, 2011 to film a new reality TV show entitled Everyday Health. They will film at a salon cut-a-thon that will aim to spread awareness of psoriasis and get the message across that this autoimmune condition is NOT contagious. Proceeds will benefit the National Psoraisis Foundation.

Newlywed, reality starlet, and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian was recently diagnosed with Psoriasis, bringing some more awareness to the condition; and pro golfer Phil Mickelson lives with psoriatic arthritis, a related condition.

If you wish to take part in the cut-a-thon (remember — you may end up on TV, so be mindful of whether or not that is something that you are comfortable with) call 412.471.1575.

Here is more information from the National Psoriasis Foundation regarding the event:

“Join ABC’s “Everyday Health” and get a free haircut!

People with psoriasis often face discrimination at hair salons because others fear their disease is contagious. Show these people that you can’t catch psoriasis.

Join ABC on Thursday, Sept. 1, for the filming of a new reality show, “Everyday Health,” at Verve Wellness for a special “cut-a-thon” fundraiser to benefit the National Psoriasis Foundation. Get a haircut between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and you could be on national TV showing your support for the millions of Americans with psoriatic diseases.

Thanks to the generosity of ABC, anyone with psoriasis in the Pittsburgh area can get their hair cut for free during this event.

Call Verve Wellness at 412.471.1575 to make an appointment during Thursday’s cut-a-thon.”

The Play Date Gala – Having Fun for a Good Cause

10 May
On Friday, May 6th, 2011, a benefit was held at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Since the invitation said, “playful cocktail attire,” I knew I had to attend!

The event didn’t disappoint. It was a perfect mix of elegant meets “FUN” with fearless fashions, an acapella group, dancers, fun centerpieces, awesome live and silent auction items….and even a flash mob!

VIPs such as Pittsburgh Steeler Charlie Batch and more enjoyed an evening of good food catered by famed chef Bob Sendall, great music, and lots of laughs – all for a great cause. Dance troupe, “Bodyography” provided a wow factor with their routines, while Pittsburgh’s only all-vocal band, “Double Shot” impressed with their collection of tunes ranging from Maroon 5 to the Brian Setzer Orchestra and beyond.

It was a swanky crowd, in a unique venue – and the vibe was perfect for the cause being supported, whose mission was, “Joy. Creativity, and Curiousity.”

Co-chairs of the event were Heather McBrier and Susan Baierl, and sponsors included Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shiled, Mascaro Construction, Schneider Downs, 77 Kids by American Eagle, Baierl Automotive, Children’s Hospital, Deloitte & Touche, Duquesne Light, KDKA, Pascale Communications, and many more. The Great Friend of Children Award was presented to Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield for their commitment to children, as guests looked on while dining on an exquisite menu which included vegetarian chilli, honey glazed roasted ballontine chicken with leeks, apricots, pistachios & a demi glaze, Chinese boxed salad, and citrus-scented brown rice, followed by a palette of delectable desserts.

The evening’s biggest delight was not the fabulous decor or the oh-so-tasty food, but rather, the flash mob that surprised the crowd, dancing in sync to PINK’s hit, “Raise Your Glass.”

Touted as, “the ultimate play-date for grown-ups” this event surely didn’t disappoint. Check out some photos below, courtesy of photographer Matthew Shuck.

St. Baldrick’s – Going Bald for a Good Cause: Helping Fight Childhood Cancer! @StBaldricks

25 Mar

Last Friday, March 19th, 2011, approximately 25 students, dads, and teachers “went bald” for kids’ cancer at Aiken Elementary School, a part of the Keystone Oaks School District. The school’s goal was to raise $1,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation – and they ended up raising over $7,000!

Each “shavee” got friends, family, and strangers to donate and “sponsor” them as they had their heads shaved bald for this worthy cause.

Enjoy some photos from the event, below!
