MTV’s Real World: Pittsburgh Could Air in 2012

16 Dec

The 27th season of MTV’s hit show, “The Real World” is rumored to be set in Pittsburgh, PA. The Real World: Pittsburgh could air in 2012.

Although Pittsburgh has, in the past, been a casting location for The Real World, if it goes through, this will be the first season of the show that is actually set in the city, though it has long been in consideration.

A casting was held in March 2011 at Buckhead Saloon in Station Square, but the names of chosen cast members have not yet been released, nor has a definitive air date. In fact, as of today, there is no solid confirmation of Pittsburgh being the next location, other than a Wikipedia page and a lot of Twitter chatter.

That being said, it is highly likely that it will be set in Pittsburgh. Rumors have been swirling for years of a Real World: Pittsburgh, and it looks as though 2012 may be the year, as the chatter has really picked up as of late!

MTV isn’t a stranger to Pittsburgh — Chelsea of the hit show Chelsea Settles is from the area, too, hailing from Uniontown.

Glitzburgh Glam: Carey Mulligan’s Copycat Covers

7 Dec

If you subscribe to Vogue magazine, and, perchance, happened to pick up a copy of the most recent issue of the French ELLE Magazine, you’d likely end up puzzled and surprised — with a bad case of deja-vu!

Why, you ask?

The latest cover of French ELLE is nearly identical to an October 2010 issue of Vogue magazine.

The photo, shot in 2010 in the South of France by Peter Lindbergh, features actress and fashion plate Carey Mulligan with styling by Vogue’s Grace Coddington.

The magazines are competitors, and not within the same publishing house, so the situation leaves many questions unanswered.

Pittsburgh’s Queen of Country – Meet Singer Kellie Lynne ~ Beautiful Inside and Out!

29 Jul

A few years back, I was at a local fair (in McDonald, PA, I believe) and a cute, blonde country singer who seemed close to my own age simply dazzled my girlfriends and I as she  hit the stage. Since then, I’d seen her a few times at events around town, and have definitely noticed her presence in the online world.

Apparently, I have not been the only one to notice hometown girl Kellie Lynne. She seems to have the makings of a true country superstar, and I am thrilled that she’s agreed to be my next Glitzburgh interviewee.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy! I’m sure that we’ll be seeing many more big things from Kellie Lynne in the very near future!

I’m proud to call her a fellow Pittsburgh gal! Read on to learn more about this beautiful, gifted, inspiring talent, and strong young woman.

~ Ashley B

Q: What part of Pittsburgh or the Pittsburgh area are you from?

*Lower Burrell, PA

Q: You should never ask a lady, but….how old are you?

*25

Q: When did you first discover your love for music?

*I discovered my love for music at a very young age! My parents tell me that I would always run around the house singing as much as I could whenever I was a toddler!! I still remember to this day singing in my room to an audience of stuffed animals with a hair brush as my microphone! I had a bunch of mirrors in my room so I would always watch myself in the mirror as I sang so that I could see what I was doing to work on my body language & performance!

Q: Do you write your own lyrics? What about your own music?

*I recently began writing my own lyrics. I found this to be a new love of mine. I used to be very shy & timid about sharing my lyrics with others, but after I started performing out a song that I wrote on my current CD, it’s really changed my view on sharing my music with everyone! I’ve had people tell me that the song that I wrote on the album is their favorite song on the CD & when I perform the song live, fans sing along! That gives me chills!!

Q: Have you played any local venues, and which ones?

*I’ve had a band for over 7 years, so yes, I’ve played a lot of local venues…too many too name!! Lol! My favorite Venue would have to be Saddle Ridge in Station Square! I had my CD Release party there back in September! It’s always a blast to play there because people go there to listen and dance to country music!

Q: What was your most recent show?

*My most recent show was in Conneaut Lake, PA at the Conneaut Lake Park. That was a fun show because it was outdoors right by the lake, so all of the boaters came up to watch the show. The weather wasnt the best part because it was very hot outside, but I did get to work a little bit on my tan…so I guess that was a plus! 🙂

Q: What has been your biggest show and/or appearance thus far? Locally, nationally?

*My biggest show Nationally was being on TV for, “Showtime At The Apollo” filmed in Harlem, NYC. To sing on the Apollo stage was such an honor for me!! I recieved a standing ovation from the audience which to this day is still something that means the world to me, because for “Showtime At The Apollo” the audience has the right to ‘boo’ you off of the stage!

*My biggest show Locally would be how the band was chosen to be the opening act for Loretta Lynn (twice!) I’ve had the chance to be the opening act & meet many Country artists, but when I met Loretta Lynn I was stuck in a dumb founded stare!! Loretta herself is such a musical legend and worked so hard to get what she deserved! Loretta is such a beautiful woman the whole way around!!!

Q: Who – and what- inspires you – any Pittsburgh people or aritsts?

*Honestly I can be inspired from a karaoke singer at a local bar to a famous musical artist that’s on the radio!! I believe that you learn and take notes from anyone who is musically inspired!! We/they all have the same drive and love as you!! Live and learn from all!

Q: What do you bring to your music that makes you stand out from other country singers?

*I feel that I bring a lot of energy to the table! If you come out to a show, you will never see me standing still! I love to have fun and put emotion behind my music! I’m also very ‘people’ driven! I love to stay in touch with my fans & meet as many new people as possible!!

Q: In which direction do you see yourself heading with your career?

*Well, I decided this month that it is time to move to Nashville next month to take my career to the next level! I believe that I’ve gotten as far as I can living here in Pittsburgh. I cannot wait to be in the city where everyone is music driven! Nashvile….here I come!:)

Q: Which musical artists do you dream of someday working with?

*Too many to name!! I’d love to work with as many as I possibly could! I believe that you learn from every artist that you meet!I have a wide variety! Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Willie Nelson, Shania Twain, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Lady Antebellum and so on and so on!! 🙂

Q: What’s in store for you for the rest of the summer?

*The plan is to finish out my shows that I have booked for the summer & then start to pack to move to Nashville! Once I hit Nashville I’m ready to start a whole new life!

Q: What’s been your proudest moment so far?

*I believe that as I get older and more educated about the music business that I look back at everything that I’ve done with my career so far in Pittsburgh and smile! I couldnt be happier with everything that I’ve been able to accomplish between starting a band, touring, meeting fans, opening for major acts, being on TV, getting radio airplay, writing music, releasing cds, selling merchandise, and having supportive family, friends & fans.I’m such a lucky girl and I couldnt be more proud than to know that I’m going after my dream!

Q: Single or taken? Any celebrity crushes?

*Taken. but that doesnt mean that I wont talk to any guys! I’m very lucky to have such a supportive boyfriend who understands what my job is all about! He knows that it’s my job to talk to and meet new fans! I absolutely love to meet with and talk tonew fans & learn all about them!!:)

Q: What’s been the hardest part about your journey in ‘the industry’ thus far?

*There are a lot of hard things about being in ‘the industry!’ It all started 5 years ago whenever I got involved with a scam artist! There are so many out there that attack new artists in the business! In a wierd way, I guess that it made me a lot stronger and opened my eyes to the music world!

Also, in this business you always have got to be on top of your game! There’s always someone out there who is better than you and more hungry….and you always have to remind yourself of that! It could be very easy to give up in this business, but it’s nice to have the support and love of family members and friends to help you get through!:)

Taylor Lautner Frenzy Eclipses Mt. Lebanon’s Virginia Manor As ‘Abduction’ Continues to Film in Pittsburgh

15 Jul

Today I set out on Day 2 of my Taylor Lautner adventure. Writing an entertainment blog in Pittsburgh, and having one of the most current and relevant “heartthrobs” of our time filming a movie here in my hometown – well, it’s like hitting a blogger-jackpot.

So, today I went star-seeking, and, set out to talk to other Pittsburghers about what it meant to them to have  a movie star in our presence, and to see what they thought that this meant for our region. Additionally, as a writer, and always the observer, I really wanted to be able to soak up this experience and be as “in it” as all of the fans were, to be able to take it all in, and truly be a part of it, from all perspectives and all sides of the situation, as much as I am able to, with it being a closed set, and my not having and press privileges….(yet! But, as always, I’m determined!)

So, on this 90-degree summer day, I played two very appropriate roles: journalist, and fan girl.

Last night, I found out from a source that Lautner would be filming scenes today Osage Road in the relatively affluent subdivision Virginia Manor where he resides in the Mt. Lebanon neighborhood of Pittsburgh. I got there around 11:00am to find that there were about 60 others already anticipating his arrival – just waiting to catch a glimpse of their favorite star. The majority – as you’d expect – were women, ranging from toddlers to tweens, coeds to cougars, Hollywood types to housewives – it was quite a mix, with an age ran spanning 5 months to, I’d say 50 years!  (And even including true-blue paparazzi!)

Osage Road was lined. Two police and a number of Abduction crew members and security had the road blocked off at Valleyview Drive, where barricades were in place. No one – and I mean no one, including the postal worker and street residents – was allowed down the portion of the street where they were filming. I witnessed some desperate attempts – some of which were pretty funny. There were quite a few “joggers” who were rerouted (many of whom you could simply tell were SO not runners), a younger couple in a car who were “looking through the high school” (in a housing plan?) and a little girl who said she lived on “Pine Street” (the police informed here that there were “5 other ways to get there, and this definitely wasn’t the most efficient.”)

Devotion was unswerving, though, amongst the diehard Lautner fans! Some girls who I talked to from the Hookstown area, all 13 and 14 years old, were there since 8am and made a handcrafted sign for the actor. (The same group, Sarah, Jess, Elaina, and Sydney, sat for 9 hours in the rain on Monday at Lautner’s Abduction shoot at Hampton High School, but did not meet or speak to the actor.)  Two sisters who I also spoke to, Alexandra, 21, and Beatrix, 19, from Sewickley, are such Lautner fans that, in the past, they’ve traveled to the “real” Forks, Washington, where the “Twilight” book series is based. (As most of you know, the Twilight movie series is what shot Lautner to fast and furious fame, though he’s in Pittsburgh filming the thriller, Abduction.)

Many residents of Mt. Lebanon think that it is “neat” or “interesting” that a movie is being filmed in their neighborhood, and the teenage girls (and some of their mothers!) are certainly smitten by Lautner. However, it doesn’t seem that all of the residents are pleased. Many teenage and twentysomething boys walked or rode past making snide remarks, teasing girls about Taylor Lautner, or making otherwise rude comments, and a sense of jealousy or simply being “territorial” was in the air. Additionally, many older residents expressed disdain and/or annoyance at not being able to drive down their own streets, or were simply annoyed by the inconveniences imposed by the hoopla and spectacle of it all. One woman named Mary complained about the “circus” in her “once quiet” neighborhood.

The goal of everyone in attendance was the same: to meet Taylor. Fans wanted photos, autographs, handshakes, and hugs. Many people had Twilight memorabilia or Taylor Lautner posters to be signed, some came unprepared but just wanted to see their favorite star in person. One girl told me that she “just wanted to see him” and admitted to sitting outside his house for hours. “The police have escorted me off of his lawn more than once.” Another woman was advising the crowd “not to scream” because it would “make Taylor run away.”

This brings me to my next point: when is enough enough?

Lautner has a reputation for being a nice star – very down to earth, friendly, and known to take pictures with fans and sign autographs. However, I do agree that some of this behavior WOULD make him “run away.”

Here’s an example: after I went home for the day, I decided to drive on by, again, after a Starbucks run, since I live 5 minutes away, out of curiosity, to see if there were still people there. THERE WERE. Not only were there still people, with chairs and coolers, lining Osage Street … but there were 20 people or so CAMPED OUT on his LAWN. Where he is LIVING.

Now, I admit that watching the scene unfold earlier on in the day was intriguing; a little exciting. “Lautner-hunting” has been fun, and I still hope that, during his time in Pittsburgh, I somehow cross paths for him, get a hello, a quote, a handshake, or, best yet, a photo! But, that being said, as enjoyable as the day was, I didn’t obsess. I stayed for a couple of hours and left, went back a couple of hours later, and left again. Some people were literally there from 8am until, well, probably 10pm when I drove past again later in the night. I’m not judging them, by any means – to each their own – but, it makes me feel badly for him, or any celebrity, really. It’s one thing when he’s on set, doing his job. However, when they’re at home, or “off the clock” and just living their life…I personally say, let it go. Give him some space! But, that’s just me, just my personal opinion, that’s all.

But …

I hope if any of you are still camped out in front of his house that you at least brought your laptop and are reading the Glitzburgh blog!

I will continue to update you on all things Taylor Lautner as I get news and information!

(I’ll be out of town for a week, though, so you all will have to give me the scoop as I am away from Pittsburgh!)

BTW: Pick up a copy of Saturday’s Tribune-Review! A quote from me will be on the front page of the Living section in the article about the Taylor Lautner movie and it will talk about the Glitzburgh blog!!

Pssst… I’ll have more news on the Katherine Heigl movie, too, when I return from my trip! She’s also filming here in the Ambridge/Sewickley area in a movie called, “One for the Money!”

Quickie Randomosity: Earthquake Aftershock in Pittsburgh, Pirates Pierogi Gets Rehired, USA Loses World Cup, Britney, Gaga, Eclipse, and PHOTO OF THE DAY: Let’s GO!

27 Jun

This blog is a quickie mash-up of some local and national randomosities of the week…. ready, set, go…

1)   There was a 5.5 magnitude earthquake along the Canadian Ontario-Quebec border that was felt all the way down here in, yes, Pittsburgh! Aftershocks were reported in the South Side, Oakland, Aspinwall, Swissvale, Homestead, and Newscastle, and also in West Virginia, New York, and Ohio! Some buildings in the South Side. Oakland, and downtown Pittsburgh were evacuated as a safety precaution.

  2) I wrote a Glitzburgh blog about the Pittsburgh Pirates organization firing one of the racing Pierogi mascots for blasting the team’s managment (and less-than-stellar record) on his personal Facebook page. (I also had a commentor inform me that a “pierogi did not get fired.  One of the 20 people who dress up as a pierogi got fired.” So thank you, to whoever wrote that, for clearing that one up!)  Well, get this. Not only was this fella offered a job as a Washington Wild Things HOT DOG (score!) but, the Pirates organization also had to re-hire the Pierogi (also known as Andrew Kurtz)  According to the Associated Press, “Pirates communications director Brian Warecki says team management learned of the firing on Friday and promptly offered Kurtz his job back because he shouldn’t have been terminated in the first place. He added that bad publicity played no part in the decision.”  (Riiight! You know my blog did it. Admit it! Hehehe.) The best part of the story is that ESPN basically reported that the Pirates “had to rehire him” because they “didn’t fire him properly.”   Turns out that the Buccos hit a whole new level of pathetic with that one. But, if Kurtz did accept the offer, WELCOME BACK to the PIEROGI TEAM, ol’ fella!

3) Sadly, the United States lost their FIFA World Cup match against Ghana yesterday. Also sadly, I won’t pretend that I am a diehard “futbol” fan, or a fan at all, really. I never was in to soccer, o I didn’t want to be a “faker” and just jump on the proverbial bandwagon, sbut, I did mosy on home from the pool yesterday to watch about half of the game. I did feel actual emotion that we lost, surprisingly, as it was a true disappointment. I was hoping for another miraculous down-to-the-wire comeback like Donovan pulled off on Wednesday, but, I guess asking for a 3rd comeback would hae been just TOO much. Well, good job, boys, nonetheless! You made it pretty darn far and did pretty darn well. Gotta hand it to Ghana for their incredible STALLING and ACTING abilities at the end of yesterday’s game….I’ll give them that.  But in all sincerety, United States, you played your butts off (from what I actually watched) in the World Cup and deserve a big congratulations and a big hug. Kudos. I won’t be watching any more of the World Cup games now that the USA is out of it, will you? If so, who are you all rooting for?   I’m just praying that I’ll never have to hear a vuvuzela again. Please.

4)  Reports are swirling that Britney Spears is going behind Jason Trawick’s back and reaching out to Adnan Ghalib again. I don’t have much more to say on this topic except PLEASE GOD NO. No!  If this true, we can expect to see the pink wig and no-panties shots coming out soon, and it’s all we can do but to hope to not see her strapped to a gurney within a year. I’m really hoping that Daddy’s conservatorship hasn’t made her come to this. (And I say this with all sincerity, I’m really pulling for her, because, yes, I happen to be a huge Britney fan!)

5)  Did you all hear Jerry Seinfeld’s comments about Lady Gaga? He called her a “jerk” and said that he “hates” her.  First off, very mature, Mr. Seinfeld. Secondly….um, earth to Jerry Seinfeld: you SO are not relevant anymore…and, in all sincerity…your show really WAS about nothing…and NOT that funny.

6) Twilight: Eclipse premieres June 30th! Yay!  Critics are calling it not only the BEST of the Twilight Saga but also one of the best movies of the summer! (I sure hope so, because, I love the Twilight books, but, the movies never do them justice!)   What do you think, Twihards? Will it top the other two? And what are you doing for the premiere?

Pssst…speaking of the Twilight Saga….Pittsburghers, Taylor Lautner is set to start filming his new movie right here in Da’ Burgh, soon! Word is that it will likely begin filming in the neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill and Shadyside within the next month AND they are now casting for extras! Don’t forget that Glitzburgh broke the news of this movie, Abduction, right away, back in  MAY!

SATC2 Premiere – A Sex & the City 2 Glitzburgh Movie Review!

27 May

Last night, I was lucky enough to attend the 96.1 KISS fm VIP Private Midnight Screening and “Pink Carpet” Party for”Sex & the City 2″ with 3 of my girlfriends. (In a Private VIP Box, equipped with leather recliners, free refreshments, and a concierge, I might add! We won that at random, which was a lovely way to cap off an already-fabulous evening of martinis and sushi)

Let me preface this review by saying that I’ve been “training”  for this movie release for a couple of weeks now: shopping, catching up on the first AND last seasons (gotta have all your bases covered) and, of course, re-watching the first movie which I’ve seen a gazillion times (and also saw on opening night.) That being said, I’m obviously a diehard SATC fan. Just a warning.

So, while I was beyond excited to see this movie, and even more excited that a friend gave me the chance to go to this premiere so that I could see the midnight screening, I also didn’t want to have super-high expectations or “set the bar” too high in my head. (I did, however, pick out my outfit a week in advance, an LC Lauren Conrad black sequin boyfriend blazer that I’m in love with. Chose it before I even knew I was going to this event.) Anyway, back to the point: sequels are never as good as the original. I knew that, I expected that, and while I was pumped, I sort of wasn’t going to psych myself out about it. Just putting that out there.

I was smart to do that. Don’t get me wrong – the movie was GOOD. It was entertaining. It was fabulous. As always, the fashions were to die for. The location was amazing. I want to be best friends with Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. (Especially Carrie. I’m SO CARRIE!) I still find Big to be impeccably smooth, charming. How could any woman NOT love Sex and the City?

That being said….it WAS a sequel. The first one WAS better. And, in my humble opinion, NOTHING will top the show! SATC2 was lacking a little of the hilarity of the first movie, and, to me, didn’t have as much heart. I don’t do spoilers, but I will say that Miranda was a little too “happy” and Charlotte was a little too “not happy” and so that was a little confusing to me as a viewer.

And one HUGE character was missing:

New York City.

While Abu Dhabi was beyond fabulosity, and the glam and decadence was SO “right” for these gals (and it kind of made me want to hop on a camel and visit there!)….there just wasn’t enough of the Big Apple. I know, I know, we got enough of it in the series and the other movie, but, I don’t know – it was just like an old friend was missing, and it was almost absurd to see so much of these girls, who ARE New York, not IN New York — the city that became the 5th character of the show.

Some other items to take note of: Carrie’s wardrobe is still outrageous, but in her own oh-so-fantastic way, girlfriend can still WORK IT! Samantha, despite having obvious work done, has NEVER LOOKED BETTER! Softer, prettier, but still the  inappropriate, crazy, Samantha that viewers either love or hate, but, mostly love! Carrie’s body is to-die-for. Charlotte and Miranda have a particularly touching moment, as they bond over martinis, that had the audience racoucsly laughing-out-loud – but, as LOL-worthy as it was, it was also a genuine moment that moms everywhere – and really, women everywhere, will be able to relate to. And yes, as seen in previews, there’s an Aiden moment.

Duh.

There’s so much to talk about, but so much that can’t be said, because, I don’t want to ruin it for you all and the general jist of this review is this: if you are looking for a lighthearted and fun flick to check out – I do encourage you all to go see this film – ESPECIALLY if you’re a Sex and the City fan. Listen, I said it wasn’t as good as the first, but, with this cast, those writers, this location, this franchise – how could it NOT be a fun and fabulous adventure? Pure entertainment. It won’t be a letdown. It’s hard to top something as stellar as the TV show and the first film.

Sex and the City ….

“It isn’t like anyone else….”

( You’ll get that after seeing the movie 😉  )

PS:  Mini-spoiler: Thumbs down – Watch out for corny and cliche karaoke scene! And a horrible cameo/song by Liza Minelli. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. The soundtrack would get far worse reviews than the movie. The much-talked-about 80’s flashback is barely a blip on the radar. On the other hand – a thumbs up – super-fun shoes that Carrie scores for $20.00 at the spice market! You have to have the GUSTO to pull those suckers off, though! 🙂
