8 Sep

How many of you ‘Burghers are ‘True Blood’ fans? (How could you NOT be, is a better question!) Join actor/resident hottie Joe Manganiello (who plays werewolf Alcide on the hit show) at SAVOY Restaurant & Lounge this SATURDAY September 10th, at 7pm.

Glitzburgh is thrilled that Joe is stopping by to try SAVOY’s (delish!) Award-Winning menu!

Manganiello – a Steelers fan –  hails from Pittsburgh. Last night, he was involved in an event with Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh — one time of many that he’s supported his hometown. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School and then went on to Carnegie Mellon University. While he’s most known at present for his critically-praised role as Alcide Herveaux on HBO’s ‘True Blood’ series, he also played Flash in the Spiderman movies, and had recurring TV roles on hit shows such as How I Met Your Mother and One Tree Hill.

So, swing by, have a Maniac Martini, and try Chef Kevin’s amazing appetizers! Hope to see you there. Check back Monday when we have all the scoop from the event!

The Play Date Gala – Having Fun for a Good Cause

10 May
On Friday, May 6th, 2011, a benefit was held at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Since the invitation said, “playful cocktail attire,” I knew I had to attend!

The event didn’t disappoint. It was a perfect mix of elegant meets “FUN” with fearless fashions, an acapella group, dancers, fun centerpieces, awesome live and silent auction items….and even a flash mob!

VIPs such as Pittsburgh Steeler Charlie Batch and more enjoyed an evening of good food catered by famed chef Bob Sendall, great music, and lots of laughs – all for a great cause. Dance troupe, “Bodyography” provided a wow factor with their routines, while Pittsburgh’s only all-vocal band, “Double Shot” impressed with their collection of tunes ranging from Maroon 5 to the Brian Setzer Orchestra and beyond.

It was a swanky crowd, in a unique venue – and the vibe was perfect for the cause being supported, whose mission was, “Joy. Creativity, and Curiousity.”

Co-chairs of the event were Heather McBrier and Susan Baierl, and sponsors included Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shiled, Mascaro Construction, Schneider Downs, 77 Kids by American Eagle, Baierl Automotive, Children’s Hospital, Deloitte & Touche, Duquesne Light, KDKA, Pascale Communications, and many more. The Great Friend of Children Award was presented to Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield for their commitment to children, as guests looked on while dining on an exquisite menu which included vegetarian chilli, honey glazed roasted ballontine chicken with leeks, apricots, pistachios & a demi glaze, Chinese boxed salad, and citrus-scented brown rice, followed by a palette of delectable desserts.

The evening’s biggest delight was not the fabulous decor or the oh-so-tasty food, but rather, the flash mob that surprised the crowd, dancing in sync to PINK’s hit, “Raise Your Glass.”

Touted as, “the ultimate play-date for grown-ups” this event surely didn’t disappoint. Check out some photos below, courtesy of photographer Matthew Shuck.

Style Guru Tim Gunn Talks Fashion, Project Runway, and Personal Style

8 Apr
Tim Gunn, Pittsburgh

Tim Gunn, Pittsburgh

Style guru Tim Gunn – best-selling author, Liz Claiborne brands chief creative officer, and fashion consultant – is best known for hosting the hit TV show, Project Runway, but last weekend, he gave Pittsburghers some advice on style at a fashion show featuring looks from Kate Spade, Lucky Brand Jeans, and Juicy Couture.

What are Tim’s all-time tips and advice for spring?

* Mixing patterns is hot right now…but be sure to do it correctly. Keep your patterns in the same color family, and make sure that they are distinct enough from one another.

* Cropped pants – they aren’t for everyone! With very little exception, people with shorter legs should probably stay away from cropped or “capri” pants as they often cut you off at the calf or ankle, making the legs appear even shorter.

* Own a classic button-down collared white shirt.

* A bright-colored, bold jacket (think: bright pink!) can be a perfect accessory this time of year, whether you pair it with jeans, a tee, and boat shoes, or a dress fit for cocktail hour.

* Bare midriffs: almost always a no-no, according to Mr. Gunn. (Though some may disagree: peekaboo cut-outs in the midriff region have been showing up on some of our favorite fashionistas! It can be done tastefully, however, and doesn’t have to be a throwback to Britney Spears circa 1999.)

* Dress for your body type, and your style. Gunn isn’t a big fan of “trends” and advises sticking to classic staples that work best for you.

Trends shown on the runway included Navajo-inspired prints, the aforementioned pattern-mixing, pineapples and bright colors

from Kate Spade, bohemian looks from Lucky, and whimsical pieces from Juicy Couture. Gunn also dished on some behind-the-scenes dirt on Project Runway – from Gretchen and Kenley’s off-air antics to (jokingly) accusing Heidi Klum of smoking crack due to some of her choices….but his best takeaway of the day was twofold: “be yourself” and, just as importantly, “BE NICE!”
