Real Housewives of New Jersey Star Teresa Giudice in Pittsburgh to Knock Out Cancer

14 Nov

Last night, Teresa Giudice, the reality star known for her spot in the Real Housewives of New Jersey cast, was in Pittsburgh to appear at the Knock Out Cancer event at the Galleria.

Not only did she give Glitzburgh a quick shout-out (see video, below) but she happily posed with fans at a VIP reception before the main event. After the meet-and-greet, she signed cookbooks and posed with photos with other fans who bought a copy of her latest book, Fabulicious.

Tall Cathy from 96.1 KISS interviwed Ms. Giudice on stage, where Teresa said, “Now that I’m in Pittsburgh, I’ll say, I LOVE the Steelers. Go Steelers!” which the crowd loved. She spoke candidly about her feuds with the other women and her brother, and also mentioned that her dad (who is occasionally seen on the show) is in the hospital and is in ill health.

Giudice said that she was still having problems with some of her castmates, but that she is as proud as ever of her talented and adorable daughters, and that her husband “Juicy Joe” is thinking about opening up a winery near where they live in New Jersey. “We want to host wine tastings and stuff,” she said.

This wasn’t her first time in Pittsburgh. She says that in Season 4 you see that they actually had a layover here at the Pittsburgh airport.

Later, she took to Twitter to say she loved meeting her fans from Pittsburgh and she shared some photos of the event. Knock Out Cancer featured vendors and raffles, and proceeds from the night went to support research and awareness of various forms of cancer. SHAG Salon of Robinson was on hand to do fun pink extensions for breast cancer research, local singers performed, a caricature artist did drawings, and more. A lot of fun for a great cause!

Enjoy photos and video, below.

Pittsburgh-Filmed ‘Abduction’ Premieres Today

23 Sep

Today is the much-anticipated release of the movie, “Abduction.” Anticipated by whom, you ask? Well, Taylor Lautner fangirls (and boys) and Pittsburgh alike have been awaiting the release of this film.

The movie was filmed in Pittsburgh last summer and the story is also based here in Da’ Burgh as well. Shoot locations include Mt. Lebanon, PNC Park, and more.

I was an extra/background actor in the flick, and though I missed the VIP Fan Premiere/Sneak Peak Advance Viewing last week in Monaca, I will be seeing the movie this weekend to see if I can spot myself and/or any familiar locations!

So, if you are looking for something to do on this rainy Pittsburgh weekend, I suggest you go see Abduction — whether you are a member of Team Jacob or Steeler Nation, the scenery surely won’t disappoint! 😉

True Blood Actor Joe Manganiello at Pittsburgh’s Savoy this SATURDAY!

8 Sep

How many of you ‘Burghers are ‘True Blood’ fans? (How could you NOT be, is a better question!) Join actor/resident hottie Joe Manganiello (who plays werewolf Alcide on the hit show) at SAVOY Restaurant & Lounge this SATURDAY September 10th, at 7pm.

Glitzburgh is thrilled that Joe is stopping by to try SAVOY’s (delish!) Award-Winning menu!

Manganiello – a Steelers fan –  hails from Pittsburgh. Last night, he was involved in an event with Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh — one time of many that he’s supported his hometown. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School and then went on to Carnegie Mellon University. While he’s most known at present for his critically-praised role as Alcide Herveaux on HBO’s ‘True Blood’ series, he also played Flash in the Spiderman movies, and had recurring TV roles on hit shows such as How I Met Your Mother and One Tree Hill.

So, swing by, have a Maniac Martini, and try Chef Kevin’s amazing appetizers! Hope to see you there. Check back Monday when we have all the scoop from the event!

The wait is over. True Blood’s (hottest) resident Werewolf, Alcide, returns to HBO’s True Blood this Sunday.

Alcide is played by actor Joe Manganiello, and was a new addition to the supernatural series last season. Manganiello is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – specifically, Mt. Lebanon.

He has appeared in not only the wildly popular True Blood, but also the Spider Man movies, as well as TV shows How I Met Your Mother, and One Tree Hill.

Fans are pushing for an Alcide-Sookie hookup, but, according to True Blood producers, don’t count on it any time soon. Catch Manganiello in action this Sunday on HBO at 9pm.

Pittsburgh Foundation’s PITTSBURGH ON VIDEO : Glitzburgh is a Video Contributor!

10 Sep

The Pittsburgh Foundation recently developed a locally-centralized “community video site” featuring journalists and contributors in and around the Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania region. This fun and innovative website is called Pittsburgh on Video and was inspired by the likes of YouTube and Hulu.

The Pittsburgh Foundation is known for their good work in our community, so it’s no wonder that they wanted to do something like this to bring Pittsburghers together, allowing us to share our insights, perspectives, visions, and stories with one another. They partnered with a company called Miro to build Pittsburgh on Video so that it would remain LOCAL – something that YouTube and other sites like it could not guarantee – and that is what makes this site so special.

Glitzburgh blogger Ashley Boynes was asked to be one of the Pittsburgh on Video contributors and you can view all of the  “Glitzburgher’s” videos right here at:

Check back often, and, you can subscribe to these videos via email or RSS feed, too!

Support Glitzburgh at Pittsburgh on Video!

Current videos (as of 9/10/11) include: Abduction casting call, Social Media Day, Numbers Elementary author interview, and Mt. Lebanon Taylor Lautner fans.

Taylor Lautner Frenzy Eclipses Mt. Lebanon’s Virginia Manor As ‘Abduction’ Continues to Film in Pittsburgh

15 Jul

Today I set out on Day 2 of my Taylor Lautner adventure. Writing an entertainment blog in Pittsburgh, and having one of the most current and relevant “heartthrobs” of our time filming a movie here in my hometown – well, it’s like hitting a blogger-jackpot.

So, today I went star-seeking, and, set out to talk to other Pittsburghers about what it meant to them to have  a movie star in our presence, and to see what they thought that this meant for our region. Additionally, as a writer, and always the observer, I really wanted to be able to soak up this experience and be as “in it” as all of the fans were, to be able to take it all in, and truly be a part of it, from all perspectives and all sides of the situation, as much as I am able to, with it being a closed set, and my not having and press privileges….(yet! But, as always, I’m determined!)

So, on this 90-degree summer day, I played two very appropriate roles: journalist, and fan girl.

Last night, I found out from a source that Lautner would be filming scenes today Osage Road in the relatively affluent subdivision Virginia Manor where he resides in the Mt. Lebanon neighborhood of Pittsburgh. I got there around 11:00am to find that there were about 60 others already anticipating his arrival – just waiting to catch a glimpse of their favorite star. The majority – as you’d expect – were women, ranging from toddlers to tweens, coeds to cougars, Hollywood types to housewives – it was quite a mix, with an age ran spanning 5 months to, I’d say 50 years!  (And even including true-blue paparazzi!)

Osage Road was lined. Two police and a number of Abduction crew members and security had the road blocked off at Valleyview Drive, where barricades were in place. No one – and I mean no one, including the postal worker and street residents – was allowed down the portion of the street where they were filming. I witnessed some desperate attempts – some of which were pretty funny. There were quite a few “joggers” who were rerouted (many of whom you could simply tell were SO not runners), a younger couple in a car who were “looking through the high school” (in a housing plan?) and a little girl who said she lived on “Pine Street” (the police informed here that there were “5 other ways to get there, and this definitely wasn’t the most efficient.”)

Devotion was unswerving, though, amongst the diehard Lautner fans! Some girls who I talked to from the Hookstown area, all 13 and 14 years old, were there since 8am and made a handcrafted sign for the actor. (The same group, Sarah, Jess, Elaina, and Sydney, sat for 9 hours in the rain on Monday at Lautner’s Abduction shoot at Hampton High School, but did not meet or speak to the actor.)  Two sisters who I also spoke to, Alexandra, 21, and Beatrix, 19, from Sewickley, are such Lautner fans that, in the past, they’ve traveled to the “real” Forks, Washington, where the “Twilight” book series is based. (As most of you know, the Twilight movie series is what shot Lautner to fast and furious fame, though he’s in Pittsburgh filming the thriller, Abduction.)

Many residents of Mt. Lebanon think that it is “neat” or “interesting” that a movie is being filmed in their neighborhood, and the teenage girls (and some of their mothers!) are certainly smitten by Lautner. However, it doesn’t seem that all of the residents are pleased. Many teenage and twentysomething boys walked or rode past making snide remarks, teasing girls about Taylor Lautner, or making otherwise rude comments, and a sense of jealousy or simply being “territorial” was in the air. Additionally, many older residents expressed disdain and/or annoyance at not being able to drive down their own streets, or were simply annoyed by the inconveniences imposed by the hoopla and spectacle of it all. One woman named Mary complained about the “circus” in her “once quiet” neighborhood.

The goal of everyone in attendance was the same: to meet Taylor. Fans wanted photos, autographs, handshakes, and hugs. Many people had Twilight memorabilia or Taylor Lautner posters to be signed, some came unprepared but just wanted to see their favorite star in person. One girl told me that she “just wanted to see him” and admitted to sitting outside his house for hours. “The police have escorted me off of his lawn more than once.” Another woman was advising the crowd “not to scream” because it would “make Taylor run away.”

This brings me to my next point: when is enough enough?

Lautner has a reputation for being a nice star – very down to earth, friendly, and known to take pictures with fans and sign autographs. However, I do agree that some of this behavior WOULD make him “run away.”

Here’s an example: after I went home for the day, I decided to drive on by, again, after a Starbucks run, since I live 5 minutes away, out of curiosity, to see if there were still people there. THERE WERE. Not only were there still people, with chairs and coolers, lining Osage Street … but there were 20 people or so CAMPED OUT on his LAWN. Where he is LIVING.

Now, I admit that watching the scene unfold earlier on in the day was intriguing; a little exciting. “Lautner-hunting” has been fun, and I still hope that, during his time in Pittsburgh, I somehow cross paths for him, get a hello, a quote, a handshake, or, best yet, a photo! But, that being said, as enjoyable as the day was, I didn’t obsess. I stayed for a couple of hours and left, went back a couple of hours later, and left again. Some people were literally there from 8am until, well, probably 10pm when I drove past again later in the night. I’m not judging them, by any means – to each their own – but, it makes me feel badly for him, or any celebrity, really. It’s one thing when he’s on set, doing his job. However, when they’re at home, or “off the clock” and just living their life…I personally say, let it go. Give him some space! But, that’s just me, just my personal opinion, that’s all.

But …

I hope if any of you are still camped out in front of his house that you at least brought your laptop and are reading the Glitzburgh blog!

I will continue to update you on all things Taylor Lautner as I get news and information!

(I’ll be out of town for a week, though, so you all will have to give me the scoop as I am away from Pittsburgh!)

BTW: Pick up a copy of Saturday’s Tribune-Review! A quote from me will be on the front page of the Living section in the article about the Taylor Lautner movie and it will talk about the Glitzburgh blog!!

From the Abduction Set in Mt. Lebanon - July 15, 2010

Pssst… I’ll have more news on the Katherine Heigl movie, too, when I return from my trip! She’s also filming here in the Ambridge/Sewickley area in a movie called, “One for the Money!”

Taylor Lautner Fever hits Pittsburgh as ‘Abduction’ Films Around Town

14 Jul

On June 30th, there was an open casting call at Carnegie Mellon University for extras to be in an upcoming film called “Abduction.”

You may have heard of it.

It’s a little flick starring, oh, you know …. Taylor Lautner.

Ring a bell?

I went to the casting call. Just for the heck of it. I’m on “the list.”  If you’ve done extra work or are familar with “the industry” you know what that means.

It means that, for example, they could call me at 7pm tonight and say that they are looking for extras to be on set at 6am until 6 or 7pm tomorrow, can I be there?

Do I get to look at Taylor Lautner with his shirt off? If so, maybe I can.

Anyway….

So, I went to the casting call to sort of “scope out the scene.”

It was rather interesting. For the sake of this blog, I decided to interview some people while I waited. (Which, wasn’t long. Turns out, going places early, and wielding a Flip Cam and lap top with some media credentials can yield a lot of power. As well as having the actual professional headshots and acting/modeling resume that were required of you, unlike seemingly 80% of people there.)

There were some “Twihards” who were……let’s say…..delusional. I’d like to know who actually thinks that the star of a movie is going to waste his or her day sitting at a casting call for movie extras. Wait – I DO know…..16 year old Twilight fans, that’s who. I didn’t want to burst their bubble, but, the interns who worked for the casting agency sure did. Poor gals were mightily disappointed that “Jacob” was not going to be there.

I also want to know this. Let’s just say – for fun – that Taylor Lautner DID show up at the casting call that day. Hypothetically. Does anyone REALLY think he’s going to go for a lady in her late 30’s-early 40’s dressed like a cheap Vegas  hooker? I don’t know. I’m guessing no. Maybe it’s just me….but I just don’t *really* get that vibe from him. But, believe it or not….there were some DESPERATE desperate housewives there. Maybe they were “stage moms” escorting their  young daughters….maybe they were just escorts. I really don’t know. Either way, maybe not the best attire? Way cougarlicious.

Folks, he isn’t interested in you. Or me, or, probably, anyone in Pittsburgh. Maybe no one right now. This is just something that I’m throwing out there.

Yes, I got little tinglies from head to toe when I found out that he’s living just a stone’s throw away from where I reside and that he was spotted more than once at a Starbucks that I frequent.

Yes, today I did drive to the location of his movie shoot today, because, I was off, had nothing to do between doctor’sappointments, and, I write an entertainment blog….so….I mean, duh! A picture would have been GOLDEN! And, it won’t be the last time that I go “werewolf hunting” in my free time this summer. (So sue me. I’m a blogger. And he’s hot.)

However…..do I have grand delusions about him? No. Have I ever had grand delusions about a celebrity? No. And I’ve met my fair share. I laugh when I see/hear/read how people act around stars. I mean, a group  of teens got arrested trying to take photos of him today?

Sigh.

Kids….when will you learn?

Be sneakier 😉

Pssst….Taylor Lautner spotted today filming in Elizabeth on Bunola River Road and Elkhorn. Security was tight but Glitzburgh will clue you in on where he’ll be filming in Pittsburgh tomorrow! I do know where he is residing in a neighborhood of Mt. Lebanon, Pittsburgh. If you do have photos or sightings, you may email tips to glitzburgh@gmail.com.  However, regardless, I will NOT post his exact address or any photos of place of residence out of respect for privacy.  Do not ask.

So close but so far, one of Lautner's movie crew members in Elizabeth today. He's hot too though 😉

These kids apparently did a better job of it than me today — I don’t know the area well enough to go traipsing through the woods. Someone give these children a job 😉    ~~~> http://www.961kiss.com/pages/scottro.html?an=Taylor-Lautner-Jr.-Paparazzi
