Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel Both Getting Divorced

5 Jan

I always thought that there was a slight chance that Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel were the same person, or, at the very least, separated from birth.

And then, they both announced divorces from their respective husbands (Russell Brand and  Ben Gibbard) within days of one another.

Conspiracy?

(All kidding aside – they do look A LOT alike. LOL.)

For your (mind-boggling) viewing pleasure:

That all being said, we’re sorry to hear about the misfortunes of these unlucky-in-love ladies. Seems to be so hard to keep a Hollywood marriage alive….

The Legendary Joe Paterno Will Leave Penn State Amidst Sex Scandal

8 Nov

Joe Paterno – a name synonymous with Penn State pride – is likely be asked to leave by PSU officials, reports the New York Times.

Admist the shocking sex scandal involving allegations and charges against former coach Jerry Sandusky and a potential cover-up by the Penn State football organization, the board of trustees at Penn State is quietly planning Joe-Pa’s exit.

Other high-ranking officials at Penn State have already stepped down.

Penn State University is suffering a heartbreaking reputation shift in the wake of this decade-old sex abuse scandal that has implicated more than one Penn State employee.

According to the Times press release, “the board of trustees is yet to determine the precise timing of Paterno’s exit, but it is clear that the man who has more victories than any other  coach at college football’s top level and who made Penn State a brand will not survive to coach another season.”

Paterno testified in front of the grand jury that he was informed of an incident involving Sandusky and a young boy, and that he reported it to school officials. However, his description was “vague” and seemingly downplayed the incident which was purportedly stated to him in graphic detail, and his intentions were questioned when he chose to go to the higher-ups at Penn State instead of reporting the incident (in detail) to police.

Though he is not being indicted and is not a target of the investigation according to authorities, his once-golden image may be tarnished in the court of public opinion.

There really are no winners in this situation.

As for today’s cancelled press conference, a report by Fox News stated the following: “Penn State’s president abruptly canceled Joe Paterno’s weekly news conference Tuesday amid increasing calls for both men to resign in the wake of a former assistant coach’s sex-abuse scandal and as another potential victim came forward. The news conference was to be the first chance for reporters to ask Paterno about what he knew about Jerry Sandusky, his former defensive coordinator and one-time heir apparent, who was indicted on charges of sexually abusing eight boys over 15 years.

‘Due to the ongoing legal circumstances centered around the recent allegations and charges, we have determined that today’s press conference cannot be held and will not be rescheduled,’ assistant Athletic Director Jeff Nelson said in a statement.”

Paterno may not have broken any laws, but his inaction and the inaction of others allowed for further abuse that should have stopped years ago.

Nonetheless, it is sad that such a legend will have to leave his career on such a sour note when he did so much for the school and the football program. Again — no one wins in this situation.

Batman Wraps, and the Dark Knight Thanks Da’ Burgh!

22 Aug

The filming of Batman movie, “The Dark Knight” has wrapped. Sorry, Pittsburgh — there will be no more snow-in-August or Batmobile sightings around town, no more rubbernecking at work to get a peek at the set or a star-sighting on your lunch break.

It will be exciting to see Pittsburgh as “Gotham” on the big screen, and, while us Pittsburgh residents are thankful to the production for choosing us as the locale, it seems as though the cast and crew of The Dark Knight are grateful to us, too.

Pittsburgh Marathon Was Da’ Bomb … (Too Soon?)

2 May

Soooo, I went down to the Marathon this morning to watch my Boyfriend cross the Finish Line and was yelled at by a Police Officer that I “couldn’t go down that street, there was an emergency.”

So, I started walking in another direction.

“Or that street!”

I was then told to turn around and go back to my car.

But then I got a “M’am, you can’t go that way.”

“Well, where is the finish line,” I asked.

The officer replied that he had no idea, “where the runners would finish now.”

I grew very confused.

To my left, a girl was bawling that she got diverted from the race course and couldn’t finish the race because the finish line was closed. She’d trained for this all year.

Cop tells us there’s a “situation.” Guy next to him tells me there’s a bomb at the finish line. Runners are MAD that they can’t finish the race. Lots of crying, swearing, breathless phone calls, people roaming aimlessly. (and, on an unrelated note, body odor.)

Next, a large group of people, myself included, are sent across the Clemente bridge in the midst of the choas.

Wait….a bomb? Really?

Yes. It was true. A female officer proceeds to tell me they’re considering canceling the race and closing down the Convention Center.

Way to cause panic amidst a crowd!

It turns out that there was truly a bomb threat at today’s Pittsburgh Marathon, which boasted 16,000 participants and thousands of additional attendees and spectators.

The threat was real, but the race went on.

Apparently, a pipe bomb was found in an abandoned microwave oven left on a sidewalk near the finish line of the race.

A bomb squad robot dismantled the bomb and no harm was done.

Many runners were told to stop running, and, at least from my point of view, there was chaos for about a half an hour, though, local news outlets are reporting that the whole event took place and was averted in a matter of 12 minutes or so.

Luckily, not too many people were affected by this scare, and the race, for the most part, went on as scheduled. Once they opened roads back up and let us walk over to the finish line, most people were blissfully ignorant and unaware that the bomb scare had even taken place.

The police on the scene and the media did a pretty good job of keeping it on the DL until the Marathon was finished. (I, on the other hand, was frantic because I had no way of getting in touch with my boyfriend, or back to my car, for about half an hour!)

After yesterday’s car-bomb scare in New York City’s Times Square, one has to wonder what’s going on lately. I mean, who DOES that?!?

That being said, I’m glad everything is well, and, I’d rather be inconvenienced for a half an hour than have them be lax on security. So kudos to the Pittsburgh police. It may have messed with my plans for the day but, it is ALWAYS “better to be safe than sorry” in my book!

(It WAS kind of unnerving for a brief time, though! Whew)

STEELERS: Santonio Holmes TRADED & Big Ben News…

12 Apr

Well, it looks like the Steelers won’t have to worry about Holmes’ reported 4-game suspension.

Why, you ask? The Rooneys are FED UP and have had enough, and are “breaking up” with Santonio.  Santonio Holmes has been traded to the New York Jets for a 5th round draft pick. Sources say that this was the best offer on the table — and, had the Steelers not been able to make this trade, they would have out-and-out CUT Holmes. The Steelers have had enough.

While the team will surely miss his on-the-field talent, the Steelers organization and fans will likely not miss his off-the-field behavior. (Though, so far, this trade has not yet provoked Holmes to encourage anyone’s suicide via social media.)

Some people are criticizing this move, but I think that it was a good decision. After all, the Steelers organization is about more than on-field skills and is a team that prides itself on more than just winning. While Holmes is a great player, the Steelers do not need his BS or his baggage…this is one franchise that has a reputation to uphold!

So, New York, enjoy your clearance item. How does it feel to get a Super Bowl MVP on sale?

Let’s hope that no other Steelers become “damaged goods.”

If I were Jeff Reed and Big Ben, I’d watch my off-field antics a little more carefully, and beware those drunken shenanigans.

PS: Big Ben press conference today at 2:00 pm EST. While ESPN reported that Roethlisberger would NOT face sexual assault charges, some sources are reporting (as recently as yesterday and today) that a final decision in Roethlisberger’s case could be months away. Additionally, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to meet with Ben at some point THIS WEEK. Stay tuned!
