Glitzburgh Grooves: New Music by Country Singer Kellie Lynne

16 Feb

Image

Glitzburgh had the pleasure of interviewing Pittsburgh native Kellie Lynne awhile back, and now has been able to preview some of her fabulous new music, brought to you from her new home in Nahsville!

Kellie’s music has definitely matured with her. Talented and gorgeous, she has a solid, strong voice and vocal stylings all of her own and has taken a hand in writing her music — always refreshing when it comes to young artists.

“Love Like That” is a catchy upbeat love song that showcases Kellie’s rich vocals and fun style while also seeming somehow familiar. The chorus reflects what we all want in life – a love that lasts. Around the 2:10 mark, there’s a really fun breakdown that modernizes the song a bit and sets it out from the crowd!

Reminiscent of: Taylor Swift, Faith Hill Image

“Reckless” is a bold and sexy song about taking having some fun, getting a little wild — and possibly taking it to the next level with a friend-turned-lover. It’s young, fresh, and real.

Reminiscent of: Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert

“Ain’t Country” is an “in-your-face” feel good tune that I could see becoming the “song of the summer.” A true anthem for country girls-and-guys everywhere! Kellie Lynne show’s she sure IS country — and with prowess — on this zippy song.

Remiscient of: Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood Image

“Dirt Cheap” is a pretty country ballad. Raw, sad, full of emotion, but still beautiful. Lyrically, perhaps my favorite song of the bunch. Kellie equates herself to an item left behind on a discount shelf….but there’s certainly something quite valuable in this song.

Reminiscent of: Alison Krauss, Lee Ann Womack Image

Overall, I’d give this selection, as a whole, 4.5 stars. Kellie is a talented artist with a lot to offer the world of country music. She’s definitely making her mark and on her way to success. Keep checking Glitzburgh for more information on her new music releases, concerts, and more!

16 Dec

Glitzburgh has recently learned that Two and a Half Men director, Jamie Widdoes, is returning to his hometown of Pittsburgh to produce a WQED talk show about female empowerment and girls’ self-esteem that will begin this month.

According to a September 2011 press release, “it’s the first program of the new Pittsburgh Innovative Media Incubator, a co-venture between WQED and the Steeltown Entertainment Project, a local nonprofit advocating to make the region an entertainment production center. The incubator is funded by a grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation.”

According to some reports, the show will also be offered in syndication to broadcasters such as the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN!)

“It’s been a dream of mine for many years to come home and produce in Pittsburgh,” Widdoes said in a statement. “I can’t think of a better place for a project like this. From the moment I was on the [set of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, I’ve wanted to do something in that studio.”

Real Housewives of New Jersey Star Teresa Giudice in Pittsburgh to Knock Out Cancer

14 Nov

Last night, Teresa Giudice, the reality star known for her spot in the Real Housewives of New Jersey cast, was in Pittsburgh to appear at the Knock Out Cancer event at the Galleria.

Not only did she give Glitzburgh a quick shout-out (see video, below) but she happily posed with fans at a VIP reception before the main event. After the meet-and-greet, she signed cookbooks and posed with photos with other fans who bought a copy of her latest book, Fabulicious.

Tall Cathy from 96.1 KISS interviwed Ms. Giudice on stage, where Teresa said, “Now that I’m in Pittsburgh, I’ll say, I LOVE the Steelers. Go Steelers!” which the crowd loved. She spoke candidly about her feuds with the other women and her brother, and also mentioned that her dad (who is occasionally seen on the show) is in the hospital and is in ill health.

Giudice said that she was still having problems with some of her castmates, but that she is as proud as ever of her talented and adorable daughters, and that her husband “Juicy Joe” is thinking about opening up a winery near where they live in New Jersey. “We want to host wine tastings and stuff,” she said.

This wasn’t her first time in Pittsburgh. She says that in Season 4 you see that they actually had a layover here at the Pittsburgh airport.

Later, she took to Twitter to say she loved meeting her fans from Pittsburgh and she shared some photos of the event. Knock Out Cancer featured vendors and raffles, and proceeds from the night went to support research and awareness of various forms of cancer. SHAG Salon of Robinson was on hand to do fun pink extensions for breast cancer research, local singers performed, a caricature artist did drawings, and more. A lot of fun for a great cause!

“Frank or Francis” May Bring Nic Cage, Jack Black, Steve Carell, and Kevin Kline to Pittsburgh

8 Nov

Kevin Kline, Jack Black, Steve Carell, and Nicolas Cage are reportedly set to star in a new Charlie Kaufman movie, “Frank or Francis,” a musical comedy to be filmed in Pittsburgh, PA.

Kaufman is the genius behind “Being John Malkovich,” “Adaptation,” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”

“Frank or Francis” follows very busy years in film production in Pittsburgh as of late. This summer, Pittsburgh hosted the Batman movie, “Dark Knight Rises,” and also presently filming in Pittsburgh is “One Shot,” starring Tom Cruise.

The “Frank or Francis” project seems to be all but confirmed, though an official announcement has not yet been made. According to the Pittsburgh Business Times, “New York-based production company Likely Story Inc. has been awarded a $4 million tax credit to shoot “Frank or Francis” in Allegheny County, according to public investment records with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, which oversees the state’s film tax credit program.”

The movie is set to begin filming in January or February of 2012.

The Legendary Joe Paterno Will Leave Penn State Amidst Sex Scandal

8 Nov

Joe Paterno – a name synonymous with Penn State pride – is likely be asked to leave by PSU officials, reports the New York Times.

Admist the shocking sex scandal involving allegations and charges against former coach Jerry Sandusky and a potential cover-up by the Penn State football organization, the board of trustees at Penn State is quietly planning Joe-Pa’s exit.

Other high-ranking officials at Penn State have already stepped down.

Penn State University is suffering a heartbreaking reputation shift in the wake of this decade-old sex abuse scandal that has implicated more than one Penn State employee.

According to the Times press release, “the board of trustees is yet to determine the precise timing of Paterno’s exit, but it is clear that the man who has more victories than any other  coach at college football’s top level and who made Penn State a brand will not survive to coach another season.”

Paterno testified in front of the grand jury that he was informed of an incident involving Sandusky and a young boy, and that he reported it to school officials. However, his description was “vague” and seemingly downplayed the incident which was purportedly stated to him in graphic detail, and his intentions were questioned when he chose to go to the higher-ups at Penn State instead of reporting the incident (in detail) to police.

Though he is not being indicted and is not a target of the investigation according to authorities, his once-golden image may be tarnished in the court of public opinion.

There really are no winners in this situation.

As for today’s cancelled press conference, a report by Fox News stated the following: “Penn State’s president abruptly canceled Joe Paterno’s weekly news conference Tuesday amid increasing calls for both men to resign in the wake of a former assistant coach’s sex-abuse scandal and as another potential victim came forward. The news conference was to be the first chance for reporters to ask Paterno about what he knew about Jerry Sandusky, his former defensive coordinator and one-time heir apparent, who was indicted on charges of sexually abusing eight boys over 15 years.

‘Due to the ongoing legal circumstances centered around the recent allegations and charges, we have determined that today’s press conference cannot be held and will not be rescheduled,’ assistant Athletic Director Jeff Nelson said in a statement.”

Paterno may not have broken any laws, but his inaction and the inaction of others allowed for further abuse that should have stopped years ago.

Nonetheless, it is sad that such a legend will have to leave his career on such a sour note when he did so much for the school and the football program. Again — no one wins in this situation.
