5 Jan

Happy Jersday!

Season 5 of MTV’s Jersey Shore premieres tonight.

Twitter is abuzz with anticipation of the wildly popular reality show returning for its newest season.

In other Jersey Shore news, the next season is reportedly going to be filmed in SOUTH AFRICA!

Also — cast member Deena Nicole will be making an appearance here in Pittsburgh at World of Wheels on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 from 1pm-5pm.

The World of Wheels will be held at the David L. Lawrence Center in Pittsburgh on January 27-29.

Hopefully, Deena is on her best behavior….

Psssttt…rumor has it that Snooki may be getting her own spin-off. That being said, other Jersey Shore cast members have also been rumored to be involved in spinoff projects; but none yet have ever come to fruition.

MTV’s Real World: Pittsburgh Could Air in 2012

16 Dec

The 27th season of MTV’s hit show, “The Real World” is rumored to be set in Pittsburgh, PA. The Real World: Pittsburgh could air in 2012.

Although Pittsburgh has, in the past, been a casting location for The Real World, if it goes through, this will be the first season of the show that is actually set in the city, though it has long been in consideration.

A casting was held in March 2011 at Buckhead Saloon in Station Square, but the names of chosen cast members have not yet been released, nor has a definitive air date. In fact, as of today, there is no solid confirmation of Pittsburgh being the next location, other than a Wikipedia page and a lot of Twitter chatter.

That being said, it is highly likely that it will be set in Pittsburgh. Rumors have been swirling for years of a Real World: Pittsburgh, and it looks as though 2012 may be the year, as the chatter has really picked up as of late!

MTV isn’t a stranger to Pittsburgh — Chelsea of the hit show Chelsea Settles is from the area, too, hailing from Uniontown.

Will the Real New Jersey Please Stand Up?

10 Sep

The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Jersey Shore. Jerseylicious.

These are just a few (yes, there’s more!) of the “gotta-love-’em” trashy reality TV shows out there that are giving the Garden State a bad name.

I saw Zach Braff – of Scrubs and Garden State fame – on E’s “The Daily 10” last night, lamenting this very fact, and mourning the loss of his home state’s reputation.

Now, I don’t know much about Jersey to begin with, but, if there were a handful of  shows on TV right now making Pittsburgh “trendy” for ALL THE WRONG REASONS, wouldn’t you all be upset?  I kind of feel bad for Jerseyites.

As Braff put it, one can’t exactly say that they spent a lovely weekend at the Jersey Shore without some GTL, Snooki, or fist-pumping reference.  (Though, could you say that before the MTV show? I don’t know. As I said, I know nothing about NJ. This isn’t my being rude, it is just unfamiliar territory for me.)

I mean, are ALL housewives in NJ table-flipping, hair-extension pulling, faux-drag drama queens like the ladies that I love to hate love…on the Real Housewives of New Jersey?

Of course not!

My question, though, is why do they all like spray tans so much? And the makeup? I mean TONS and TONS of makeup? Overkill of animal prints? Big hair? (Hello, Tracy, Olivia, Gatsby Salon staff! You certainly ARE Jerseylicious!) And the TEMPERS! Cat-fights left and right, girls hitting guys, guys hitting girls, table flipping, etc. etc….This CAN’T be all of Jersey.  (Just like all of Pittsburgh isn’t mullets………..)

I DO realize that they’re putting these people on TV for ratings. (And for that, I am thankful!) I’m on the side of people that reside in Jersey who have actual class and taste.

I mean, trust me, Pennsylvania gets a bad rap sometimes, too. Have you SEEN the “Pennsylvania Boys” video spoof of Katy Perry’s “California Gurls?”  Cut me a BREAK. Hello, embarrassing.

So, I want to hear from the normal people from Dirty Jersey  the lovely Garden State because as much as I love these people and these shows (and trust me, I do – my DVR doesn’t lie!) I feel as though the real New Jersey needs to stand up for itself!

Here’s a hug from Pittsburgh.

(And a fist pump for good measure.)

“The Hills” Series Finale: The End of a Not-So-Reality TV Era

14 Jul

Watching The Hills come to a final end was bittersweet. I didn’t know that I liked it as much as I did until I knew that it was over for good – at which point, I actually felt sad. It felt like saying goodbye to an old friend; albeit, a friend that I knew I had outgrown, and, a friend that I knew I was better off without, but, still, sad in the sense that I was saying goodbye to a friend nonetheless. It was symbolic in a sense, as they were closing a younger and more carefree chapter of their lives, so am I and many of my friends, too, as we all move on to pursue other things.

That being said, I thought that the ending was genius….well, as genius as The Hills could get. For a show so superficial and shallow, it was a perfect, simple, and clever ending, that left us all wondering, pondering, and still wanting more.

Aha! I KNEW it was all fake …

But wait, was it? Are they mocking us? How much of it was fake? Are we supposed to just interpret this how we see fit? What was reality and what was fake? Was it all on a sound stage? What was scripted and what was not? How much of it was their real lives? What about what Brody said in the after show? How DO him and Kristen really feel about one another? Were they all acting the whole time?

We may never know.

Just as we have not ever really known up until this point.

So the sound stage/studio ending was so poignant and so well-played, that I have to give MTV major props (pardon the pun) for that one.

What are your thoughts? And were you saddened to say goodbye to The Hills?

PS: Do you think that Kristen Cavillari’s new life in Europe will result in a spinoff show?

Thoughts?
