Steelers Super Bowl Shirts That Could Have Been are Now Being Used for a Good Cause

22 Dec

Just saw this on the 96.1 KISS website. These are the Steelers “Super Bowl Champion” shirts that “would have been” had we won the Super Bowl last year. However, fret not — they’re going to be used for a good cause. These shirts will be sent to countries in need by an organization called World Vision. That’s the way to spread the holiday spirit! And, that’s OK, let’s just win THIS year so we can have even cooler shirts 😉   GO STEELERS!

Actor Joe Manganiello Makes Pittsburgh Appearance

13 Sep

On Saturday, I had the chance to meet actor Joe Manganiello (from True Blood) at the swanky Savoy restaurant in the Strip. Manganiello, a huge Steelers fan and acclaimed actor, was in town for a charity event at Children’s Hospital.

Below is a photo of him and me at Savoy — too bad it is so blurry!

True Blood Actor Joe Manganiello at Pittsburgh’s Savoy this SATURDAY!

8 Sep

How many of you ‘Burghers are ‘True Blood’ fans? (How could you NOT be, is a better question!) Join actor/resident hottie Joe Manganiello (who plays werewolf Alcide on the hit show) at SAVOY Restaurant & Lounge this SATURDAY September 10th, at 7pm.

Glitzburgh is thrilled that Joe is stopping by to try SAVOY’s (delish!) Award-Winning menu!

Manganiello – a Steelers fan –  hails from Pittsburgh. Last night, he was involved in an event with Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh — one time of many that he’s supported his hometown. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School and then went on to Carnegie Mellon University. While he’s most known at present for his critically-praised role as Alcide Herveaux on HBO’s ‘True Blood’ series, he also played Flash in the Spiderman movies, and had recurring TV roles on hit shows such as How I Met Your Mother and One Tree Hill.

So, swing by, have a Maniac Martini, and try Chef Kevin’s amazing appetizers! Hope to see you there. Check back Monday when we have all the scoop from the event!

Pittsburgh Steelers MVP & DWTS Champ Hines Ward Busted for DUI

9 Jul

He’s a talented athlete who is known for his gregarious smile and his effortless charm. However, today, Pittsburgh Steelers’ Hines Ward has nothing to smile about.

Earlier in the year, he was handcuffed for a “misunderstanding” in Los Angeles while filming Dancing with the Stars (which he subsequently went on to win.)

But this time, the handcuffs were no mistake. Hines Ward was arrested early this morning in Georgia on DUI charges.

The Steelers receiver and Super Bowl MVP has been largely known as one of the most well-respected players in the NFL, but this drunk-driving charge may tarnish that image.

Ward was arrested in Dekalb County, Georgia, and held on $1,000 bond, posting shortly after the arrest and being thereafter released.

Gossip site TMZ was among the first to break the news. Ward grew up in Georgia and went to school there. Some sports pundits are speculating whether or not the NFL Lockout is giving players too much free time.

Ward is expected to release a statement this afternoon.

The mugshot photo is below. This incident unfortunately comes on the heels of a popular tabloid magazine (on stands now) boasting “Who’s Gay, Who’s Not” with Ward featured as one of the celebrities on the cover. This just isn’t his week.

The Play Date Gala – Having Fun for a Good Cause

10 May
On Friday, May 6th, 2011, a benefit was held at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Since the invitation said, “playful cocktail attire,” I knew I had to attend!

The event didn’t disappoint. It was a perfect mix of elegant meets “FUN” with fearless fashions, an acapella group, dancers, fun centerpieces, awesome live and silent auction items….and even a flash mob!

VIPs such as Pittsburgh Steeler Charlie Batch and more enjoyed an evening of good food catered by famed chef Bob Sendall, great music, and lots of laughs – all for a great cause. Dance troupe, “Bodyography” provided a wow factor with their routines, while Pittsburgh’s only all-vocal band, “Double Shot” impressed with their collection of tunes ranging from Maroon 5 to the Brian Setzer Orchestra and beyond.

It was a swanky crowd, in a unique venue – and the vibe was perfect for the cause being supported, whose mission was, “Joy. Creativity, and Curiousity.”

Co-chairs of the event were Heather McBrier and Susan Baierl, and sponsors included Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shiled, Mascaro Construction, Schneider Downs, 77 Kids by American Eagle, Baierl Automotive, Children’s Hospital, Deloitte & Touche, Duquesne Light, KDKA, Pascale Communications, and many more. The Great Friend of Children Award was presented to Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield for their commitment to children, as guests looked on while dining on an exquisite menu which included vegetarian chilli, honey glazed roasted ballontine chicken with leeks, apricots, pistachios & a demi glaze, Chinese boxed salad, and citrus-scented brown rice, followed by a palette of delectable desserts.

The evening’s biggest delight was not the fabulous decor or the oh-so-tasty food, but rather, the flash mob that surprised the crowd, dancing in sync to PINK’s hit, “Raise Your Glass.”

Touted as, “the ultimate play-date for grown-ups” this event surely didn’t disappoint. Check out some photos below, courtesy of photographer Matthew Shuck.
