The 54th Annual Grammy Awards – Tonight!

12 Feb

Tonight is the 54th Annual Grammy Awards Show.

You can expect a lot of fashion on the red carpet, and some great live performances, including a recently-added Whitney Houston tribute sung by Jennifer Hudson and Chaka Kahn.

There may be controversial moments, too – for example, Chris Brown, known for both his talents and his anger management issues, is taking the stage, outraging some for his notorious pre-Grammy antics not too long ago. Ex-girlfriend/possible current mistress Rihanna is up for Album of the Year, and has remained mum on the abuse scandal as of late.

Speaking of mum, Mumford & Sons is up against Adele, Katy Perry Bon Iver, and Bruno Mars for Record of the Year.

Album of the Year nominees are Lady Gaga, Adele, Rihanna, Foo Fighters, and Bruno Mars.

The Grammys are going to be hosted by LL Cool J and are set to air at 8pm EST tonight, February 12th, 2012 on CBS.

Adele is expected to come out on top as the night’s big winner, and will also be giving her first performance since a vocal chord surgery; and Kanye West is leading the pack in nominees with a total of  7 Grammy nominations this year.

‎”Two and a Half Men” director to produce WQED talk show in Pittsburgh, Beginning December 2012

16 Dec

Glitzburgh has recently learned that Two and a Half Men director, Jamie Widdoes, is returning to his hometown of Pittsburgh to produce a WQED talk show about female empowerment and girls’ self-esteem that will begin this month.

According to a September 2011 press release, “it’s the first program of the new Pittsburgh Innovative Media Incubator, a co-venture between WQED and the Steeltown Entertainment Project, a local nonprofit advocating to make the region an entertainment production center. The incubator is funded by a grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation.”

According to some reports, the show will also be offered in syndication to broadcasters such as the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN!)

“It’s been a dream of mine for many years to come home and produce in Pittsburgh,” Widdoes said in a statement. “I can’t think of a better place for a project like this. From the moment I was on the [set of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, I’ve wanted to do something in that studio.”

MTV’s Real World: Pittsburgh Could Air in 2012

16 Dec

The 27th season of MTV’s hit show, “The Real World” is rumored to be set in Pittsburgh, PA. The Real World: Pittsburgh could air in 2012.

Although Pittsburgh has, in the past, been a casting location for The Real World, if it goes through, this will be the first season of the show that is actually set in the city, though it has long been in consideration.

A casting was held in March 2011 at Buckhead Saloon in Station Square, but the names of chosen cast members have not yet been released, nor has a definitive air date. In fact, as of today, there is no solid confirmation of Pittsburgh being the next location, other than a Wikipedia page and a lot of Twitter chatter.

That being said, it is highly likely that it will be set in Pittsburgh. Rumors have been swirling for years of a Real World: Pittsburgh, and it looks as though 2012 may be the year, as the chatter has really picked up as of late!

MTV isn’t a stranger to Pittsburgh — Chelsea of the hit show Chelsea Settles is from the area, too, hailing from Uniontown.

Real Housewives of New Jersey Star Teresa Giudice in Pittsburgh to Knock Out Cancer

14 Nov

Last night, Teresa Giudice, the reality star known for her spot in the Real Housewives of New Jersey cast, was in Pittsburgh to appear at the Knock Out Cancer event at the Galleria.

Not only did she give Glitzburgh a quick shout-out (see video, below) but she happily posed with fans at a VIP reception before the main event. After the meet-and-greet, she signed cookbooks and posed with photos with other fans who bought a copy of her latest book, Fabulicious.

Tall Cathy from 96.1 KISS interviwed Ms. Giudice on stage, where Teresa said, “Now that I’m in Pittsburgh, I’ll say, I LOVE the Steelers. Go Steelers!” which the crowd loved. She spoke candidly about her feuds with the other women and her brother, and also mentioned that her dad (who is occasionally seen on the show) is in the hospital and is in ill health.

Giudice said that she was still having problems with some of her castmates, but that she is as proud as ever of her talented and adorable daughters, and that her husband “Juicy Joe” is thinking about opening up a winery near where they live in New Jersey. “We want to host wine tastings and stuff,” she said.

This wasn’t her first time in Pittsburgh. She says that in Season 4 you see that they actually had a layover here at the Pittsburgh airport.

Later, she took to Twitter to say she loved meeting her fans from Pittsburgh and she shared some photos of the event. Knock Out Cancer featured vendors and raffles, and proceeds from the night went to support research and awareness of various forms of cancer. SHAG Salon of Robinson was on hand to do fun pink extensions for breast cancer research, local singers performed, a caricature artist did drawings, and more. A lot of fun for a great cause!

Katie Holmes Praises Pittsburgh on Live with Regis & Kelly

8 Nov

Today, actress Katie Holmes (and wife of Tom Cruise) was on Live! With Regis & Kelly today to promote her new film, “Jack and Jill” and spoke about Pittsburgh.

Regis asked how her, Tom, and Suri celebrated Halloween and she said, “We were in Pittsburgh because Tom is shooting One Shot.” (Which got a few cheers from audience members!)

Kelly Ripa then said, “Pittsburgh — Pittsburgh is GREAT! I love Pittsburgh.”

Kelly and Katie discussed the mall “near the airport” and Regis chimed in that nowadays “so many movies are coming out of Pittsburgh!”

Katie then said that she shot “Wonderboys” a few years back, right here in Pittsburgh, as well, and spoke about a few other movies that have been filmed here as of late.

Pennsylvania Native Danny Seo Talks Upcycling on Anderson

26 Oct

As a fan of Anderson Cooper’s daytime talk show, “Anderson,” I’m always intrigued by the diversity of topics covered on his show.

Recently, a show discussed the new concept of “upcycling” and featured guest and green lifestyle expert, the eco-friendly guru Danny Seo.

I was very interested in upcycling, and Googled Seo after the show only to find that he is a native of Pennsylvania. (Bucks County)

His website and books offer tips on “living green with great style.”

You can learn more about Danny, upcycling, and his (chic!) green initiatives by visiting http://www.dannyseo.com

New TV Series “Hart of Dixie” Review

24 Sep

I had the opportunity to screen the CW’s “Hart of Dixie” series in
advance. The hourlong dramedy, which premieres on Monday, September
26th, stars the lovely Rachel Bilson as Dr. Zoe Hart and is set in
Blue Bell, Alabama.

Bilson thrives as a chic yet gritty NYC-bred wannabe cardiothroacic
surgeon turned small-town general practitioner. Yes, she’s a bit
bratty and a bit blase about the (stereotypical) Southern town.
However, there’s something lovable underneath the tough-girl exterior.

The premise is this:  Dr. Hart lost both her boyfriend and her chance
at a cardio fellowship in New York due to her lack of compassion, her
poor bedside manner, and, her generally just not being
feelings-oriented. She is forced to make a decision and moves to Blue
Bell due to the urging of a kindly older doctor. Once she arrives in
the small town, she makes a few friends, a few enemies, a few
mistakes, and learns a couple of surprising secrets. She also does
some good, and begins to grow into the kind of doctor that she was
born to be.

In her quest to learn “to see patients as people to help and not
problems to solve,” she has her Christina Yang-esque moments like when
she snippily wonders “why everyone is so obsessed with bedside manner”
and as she snobbishly demands office staff to find her a soy latte.
But underneath that facade is a girl just wanting to be loved by her
uncaring parents… and a girl who is also feeling lost and alone. She
is essentially an outsider wondering how she will ever fit into this
tightknit community that seems so backwards to her.

Yes, it is a show that seems rife with Southern stereotypes. The pilot
episode contained a Dukes of Hazzard horn, references to the Crimson
Tide, women dolled up in Gone With the Wind era garb, a girl named
Lemon, an alligator, country music, gossipy old women, and mud, muck,
and pickup trucks. That being said, it also contained laughs, tears,
and drama.

The CW stays true to form in having a mostly absurdly attractive cast
from the hunky smalltown lawyer, the suave ex-NFL star mayor and the
annoying-but-charming boy-next-door, to the perky and pretty Lemon,
and the stunning, stylish Dr. Zoe Hart herself as a brunette beauty
with a killer sense of style. But, the show also has some real people
with real problems and, I expect, will cultivate itself a real
following.

I know that I will be tuning in again.

The Hart of Dixie premieres Monday, September 26th, on The CW at 9/8c.
Check your local listings — and after you watch, feel free to leave a
comment and let me know if you agree with my critique!
