Tweeting with Oprah

22 Oct

As some of you know, I do health and advocacy work as well as my Glitzburgh blog.
Last week, I had an amazing surprise when one of my heroes, Oprah Winfrey herself, sent me a tweet.

The fact that the Big O took the time to read my bio and then tweet me about it? Amazing.

I would like to share….

Check it out – the 4th one down to @ArthritisAshley (one of my many other twitter accounts besides @Glitzburgh!)

Oprah said, “I read ur bio. U r a survivor and now in the the healing business. Allowing others to “emerge” from their pain.” You can see the original tweet, here.

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick Engaged….Or Not.

16 Feb

Today reports were swirling that Kourtney Kardashian and longtime love, Scott Discik, with whom she has a son, got engaged.

While a couple of tabloid magazines and celeb gossip tweets brazenly proclaimed the good news, Kardashian herself claims that th announcement is false.

Kourtney took to her Twitter page to say:  “WOW!! Where do the mags come up with this stuff? And claiming exclusives? Come on now.”

The couple is still going strong and raising son Mason, but a wedding is not in the immediate future, despite teasers of “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” showing Scott buying an engagement ring for Kourtney.
Guess we’ll all have to wait and see!

Calling All Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie Fans! Get @HilaryBeeC to Glitz with us in Da’ Burgh!!

15 Nov

Dear Hilary Duff: I’m talking to you, missy! 😉

I’m on a mission to get actress/singer/entrepreneur/writer/fashionista/cutie Hilary Duff Comrie to do an interview with Glitzburgh, now that she has Pittsburgh ties!

Duff’s husband, Mike Comrie, plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins and I’d love to get them to sit down and do a rare joint interview!  (or, a one-on-one – I’ll take what I can get….)

Hilary is skidaddling about the country promoting her new book, Elixir, and so she may be a hard lady to get in touch with.

But, I love the gal and would be beyond honored if she’d get in touch with her newfound “Pittsburghness” and glitz with us!

(Or, at the very least – Hilary: please do a book signing or meet-and-greet in Pittsburgh!)

Comedienne Kathy Griffin was in Pittsburgh for a show at Heinz Hall on Thursday September 9th.

She tweeted before going on stage,

“Last nite I actually ate a sandwich here in Pittsburgh @Primanti’s w frfries INSIDE (SO good!)”

That’s how we do it here in Pittsburgh, Kathy!

Mashable Social Media Day 2010 ~ Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Tweetup – #SMDay2010 #SMDay

14 Jul

June 30th, 2010 was the first ever national “Social Media Day” and to commemorate this special event, Pittsburgh held a Mashable Social Media Meetup  at the esteemed Andy Warhol Museum. I could not think of a better place than the Warhol to talk one of the biggest influencers of pop culture today: social media.

The first 50 guests to “check in” on Foursquare (showing proof via their smart phone of choice, naturally) received a free Social Media Day t-shirt. Attendees enjoyed a cash bar, a luxe yet relaxed atmosphere, and got to chat up their online pals IRL.

Tweeps linked up with LinkedIn friends in real life, as Facebook acquaintances friended one another in the flesh. The networking that was done was social indeed, but it was done without the benefit of emoticons, Twitpics, or hashtags.

Naturally, words with friends were exchanged, but most iPhones were kept in purses and pockets as true friendships were developed and explored in person.

The crowd was diverse, ranging from chic to geek and everything in between, and, everyone went back to blogging, poking, and tweeting in near anonymity just minutes after dispersing, but, for those hours at the Warhol, it was a nice occasion where two worlds nicely collided, cultivating and developing friendships new and old.

I think that Social Media Day will be an ongoing success.

Please enjoy my photos, below.

@BuellaMarie

and

@LukeRomesberg

Both have met and mingled with various celebrities…and we don’t just mean an extra from Saved By the Bell or someone from a reality TV show — we mean some high-caliber folks here, people.

Both have creative and artistic backgrounds, boatloads of Twitter and Facebook friends, and a knack for all things “now” … from politics, to current events, trends, music, tv,  movies, art, sports, and, oh yeah, most importantly, social media know-how and experience with “the industry.”

Want to know more about either one? Well, my advice would be to hit them up on Twitter! Or, just get to nominating!

You don’t have much time!

Thanks,

Glitzburgh

PS: Pssst…speaking of Social Media … Did you know that June 30th is Social Media Day?  Fun Nerd-Fact for you 🙂

Thoughts on a Hometown Girl : Christina Aguilera – Copycat, Sell-Out, or Neither? And the Gaga vs. XTina Battle

10 Jun

I’m kind of growing tired of Perez Hilton’s endless tirades about Christina Aguilera copying Lady Gaga.

But, the truth is, in many instances, he’s correct, and has a lot of “evidence” in his corner.

That being said, though, let’s not forget that our “Dirrty” girl Christina rocked the pantless look (assless chaps, anyone?) back in the day way before Gaga was, well, Gaga.

Additionally, have you seen Lady Gaga’s latest video, Alejandro? If we’re going to talk about copying, well, it REEKS of early Madonna.

I’m a HUGE Lady GaGa fan (even a bigger GaGa fan than XTina!), and, a Christina Aguilera fan, too – so I’m not calling anyone out on anything – I’m just saying….everyone gets inspiration from somewhere, so people like Perez Hilton need to stop pointing fingers. (After all, he’s going to make people turn on his “wifey” GaGa if he continues going on badgering other celebrities on her behalf.)

However, if we ARE going to critique Christina Aguilera’s latest efforts with her new release “Bionic” and surrounding performances, let’s do so constructively.

I’ll give my two cents.

Christina Aguilera is a true talent. Her raw vocal prowess is just about unmatched amongst her peers; her natural musical abilities are astounding.

That being said, she sure doesn’t show it with songs like “Not Myself Tonight” and “Woo Hoo.” While catchy, I miss her “Stripped” days. That album was and is one of my all-time favorites. She should show off her beautiful voice.

And her performance on the MTV Movie Awards?

Gag me.

Gross.

Borderline embarrassing.

Tacky, cheap. She SO did not need the childish and tacky gimmicks. It probably even made Britney Spears’ stomach churn. The flashing LED heart over her lady parts? (see left) Oh, come ON, Christina.

You SO were NOT doing Pittsburgh proud with THAT one.

See, Lady GaGa does weird and it is ART. True art. Not just someone “saying” something is art, but actual, meaningful, cultural, art. Christina Aguilera does weird and it was … THAT. Tasteless. Vulgar. Trash. (When she actually HAS the talent to back it up, and shouldn’t HAVE to rely on cheap tricks and gimmicks….so frustrating!)

Do you guys think Xtina’s just trying REALLY hard (too hard?) to stay relevant?

I think she should take her own hints, get “stripped” (vocally) and go “back to basics.”  (Corny puns, I know!) When she lets her raw talent shine, she’s right on point.

She needs to chill with trying to out-Gaga GaGa …. she is SO talented…and can still be a little bit dirrty while, I don’t know … maybe growing up and “not” selling out?

Why give Perez Hilton any more ammo?

Just some thoughts. I want to hear yours… I’m not trying to bash Christina because she’s good, in fact, what I’m saying, is that she’s TOO good for what she’s resorted to….

:: Sidenote ::   I’ve yet to listen to ALL of Bionic. So, when I do, maybe I’ll give you a more thorough review of the album 😉

PS: Christina if you’re out there – I’m definitely willing to hear your side of things! Glitzburgh loves hometown stories, so, if you’re ever willing to give a small Pittsburgh blog a shot, here’s your forum, we’d love to have you!
