Glitzburgh Grooves: Local Artist Kenny Sukitch Releases EP on iTunes

16 Feb

I first saw Kenny Sukitch as part of the local band 13AM as they opened for the band Sleeperstar at Diesel Club Lounge. Impressed with the ability of this young group, I took notice.

Recently, I found out that one of the members, Kenny Sukitch, has released a solo LP of 4 songs on iTunes that is available for purchase at $3.99.

These alternative rock songs have twinges of pop, new-punk, ska while also maintaining a singer-songwriter vibe that will be sure to appeal to the masses.

Sure, he may be young, but I think Kenny Sukitch is one to watch. He’s already generating some buzz around Pittsburgh and for good reason. Be sure to purchase his EP – let’s all support local artists!

Check out my review of the “In My Mind” EP, below.

“Beautiful Nightmare” – From what I heard, Beautiful Nightmare may perhaps be my favorite song of the bunch. Unique and melodic, it is reminiscent of Ben Lee, who has a huge cult following. With some tweaks, I could see this track on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy!

“Making a Memory” – This sounds like a fun, commercial song — catchy and with those ska/punk twinges I spoke of before. To me, it is reminiscent of Sum 41…which, can be good or bad.

“The World is Burning Down” – I liked this one, too. Something about it is very appealing and catchy. Something about the background beat reminds me of when One Republic collaborated with Timbaland. And that is a very good thing.

“Lasting” – I have mixed feelings about this track. It was good – but it reminded me too much of Sugar Ray or Reel Big Fish…again, this could be good or bad depending on whether or not you’re a fan, but, it is catchy, albeit feeling a little dated.

Overall consensus? There’s some good stuff here. Obviously, Sukitch has drive and talent. He’s only 17 years old and so has time to really hone in on his craft. A heartbreak or two down the road, and he’ll have some great emotion to refer to. I’d say that we’ll see good things from him in the future. For now, be sure to support him, as I said, by checking out his ALL of his music on ReverbNation and Facebook,  and by purchasing his newest EP album, “Of the Mind” on iTunes!  (Worth noting? I actually checked out some of his previous songs such as R_CKT-SH_P and Letters, and was also pleasantly surprised by them…especially Letters!) This young man has great potential — and a great Facebook page. Check it out!

Wiz Khalifa in new Ad for Bing

16 Feb

“When we do it, we do it big.” – Wiz Khalifa

Wiz Khalifa on the 2012 Grammys red carpet with girlfriend Amber Rose.

A new commercial ad for the search engine Bing showcases Wiz Khalifa, Pittsburgh rap prodigy showing fans and haters alike just what it takes to be at the top of the rap game. (And that, he is!)

This ‘Bing Originals’ spot features Wiz “on his daily hustle.”

Views see the fashionable rap artist cook himself some breakfast; and head to a recording studio session, a game of pick-up basketball, and – alas, the tie in! – Wiz stops to use his phone to do a Bing search for a Thai restaurant. (perhaps to share with girlfriend Amber Rose…?) and ending with a concert scene.

Naturally, we want to hear some music from Mr. Khalifa and so the background track is ‘When I’m Gone’ from his platinum-selling debut ‘Rolling Papers.’

(The ‘Bing Originals’ spot follows behind another Bing ad which features freestyle skier Bobby Brown (no, not the New Edition crooner) and Wiz’s track ‘Boarding Pass.’)

Glitzburgh Glam: Eye Rock

16 Feb

In my recent Birchbox, I received a sample of Eye Rock eye tattoos.

These particular ones were 4 different variations of “cat-eye” inspired stick-ons for that hard-to-achieve “winged” eyeliner look.

They are fairly easy to use – – it’s basically a peel-and-stick situation — but, I did find it rather difficult to align with my eye shape. There’s the option to trim them once they’re on, but, let’s be honest – me, and scissors near my eyeballs; not a good idea.

I think that having a friend or makeup artist apply them would be a great idea, and, though most of the styles aren’t for everyday wear, they are pretty fun for a night out on the town, to accentuate a costume, or, if you just feel like being extra edgy and dramatic one day.

Here’s the look I attempted:

I can’t wait to try the rest! For more information on Eye Rock, check out http://www.nailrock.com/eye-rock — the company also does awesome nail tattoos which I hope to try next.

Glitzburgh Grooves: New Music by Country Singer Kellie Lynne

16 Feb

Glitzburgh had the pleasure of interviewing Pittsburgh native Kellie Lynne awhile back, and now has been able to preview some of her fabulous new music, brought to you from her new home in Nahsville!

Kellie’s music has definitely matured with her. Talented and gorgeous, she has a solid, strong voice and vocal stylings all of her own and has taken a hand in writing her music — always refreshing when it comes to young artists.

“Love Like That” is a catchy upbeat love song that showcases Kellie’s rich vocals and fun style while also seeming somehow familiar. The chorus reflects what we all want in life – a love that lasts. Around the 2:10 mark, there’s a really fun breakdown that modernizes the song a bit and sets it out from the crowd!

Reminiscent of: Taylor Swift, Faith Hill Image

“Reckless” is a bold and sexy song about taking having some fun, getting a little wild — and possibly taking it to the next level with a friend-turned-lover. It’s young, fresh, and real.

Reminiscent of: Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert

“Ain’t Country” is an “in-your-face” feel good tune that I could see becoming the “song of the summer.” A true anthem for country girls-and-guys everywhere! Kellie Lynne show’s she sure IS country — and with prowess — on this zippy song.

Remiscient of: Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood Image

“Dirt Cheap” is a pretty country ballad. Raw, sad, full of emotion, but still beautiful. Lyrically, perhaps my favorite song of the bunch. Kellie equates herself to an item left behind on a discount shelf….but there’s certainly something quite valuable in this song.

Reminiscent of: Alison Krauss, Lee Ann Womack Image

Overall, I’d give this selection, as a whole, 4.5 stars. Kellie is a talented artist with a lot to offer the world of country music. She’s definitely making her mark and on her way to success. Keep checking Glitzburgh for more information on her new music releases, concerts, and more!

Glitzburgh Glam: Lady Gaga, Best or Worst Dressed? -By Natalie DeBarto, Intern

28 Dec

When it comes to Lady Gaga, it’s impossible to be shocked by her outfits. After all, she did strut the stage is an outfit made of raw meat, and nothing can beat that on the shock meter. It seems this year she has been voted at the top and the bottom of the outfit pole. Sometimes she’s put together and fashionable, and other times she’s, well, covered in meat. Here’s the best and worst of Lady Gaga:

Best:

**Even though the character was annoying, Gaga looked great in the outfit!

Worst:

Lady Gaga definitely has more good outfits than bad, and her unique sense of fashion is changing the industry. Who knows, maybe the fashion of 2012 will include studded platforms, and meat dresses. Fashion is an ever changing world.

Glitzburgh Glam: Prada Headphones – Listen to Music in Style!

22 Dec

If you have $595 to spare, you can listen to music in style with the new Prada headphones.

It isn’t a new concept – some of the Beats by Dr. Dre are pretty stylish (see: Lady Gaga Heartbeats) and we accessorize and brand everything else (Michael Kors iPhone wallets, Juicy Couture and Kate Spade phone cases, even diamond-encrusted contacts, and Dolce & Gabanna eyeglasses) so why NOT rock some designer headphones?

What do you think — are they worth the money or just a waste?

Glitzburgh Glam: Bebe Bridal Line Debuting this March

22 Dec

Bebe. While, yes, it’s a mall store, it definitely is a mall store with a whole lot of style, while still being affordable — and this is exactly why it appeals to so many. Unfortunately, as of late, they’ve become more well-known for their “comfy” clothing and animal-print clubwear than their more chic and sophisticated pieces. This is why they are re-branding and launching an upscale bridal line come March 2012. The line will feature “dramatic yet tasteful” silhouettes for the modern bride.

“Project Runway” runner-up and fan favorite Rami Kashou will be at the head of Bebe’s bridal collection. Another bonus? The price. With today’s economy, brides-to-be are trying to scrimp and save where they can. No one wants to get a sub-par bridal gown, but lately many budget-friendly AND nice wedding gowns have hit the market, as evidenced by Disney’s Princess collection, as well as the Vera Wang for David’s Bridal collection, replicas of the Kate Middleton / Alexander McQueen dream gown, and even a replica of Twilight Breaking Dawn’s Bella Swan gown for Alfred Angelo. (Which was, BTW, to die for! – – Pardon the pun.)

Bebe will just be the next step in affordable bridal wear, falling right in line with Anthropologie/Urban Outfitters’ launch of BHLDN and the brands listed above.

This collection  also shows that Bebe is maturing as a brand, and upping the ante as far as taste goes. Would you wear a Bebe wedding dress? Do share! Leave us a comment and let us know.
