“Frank or Francis” May Bring Nic Cage, Jack Black, Steve Carell, and Kevin Kline to Pittsburgh

8 Nov

Kevin Kline, Jack Black, Steve Carell, and Nicolas Cage are reportedly set to star in a new Charlie Kaufman movie, “Frank or Francis,” a musical comedy to be filmed in Pittsburgh, PA.

Kaufman is the genius behind “Being John Malkovich,” “Adaptation,” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”

“Frank or Francis” follows very busy years in film production in Pittsburgh as of late. This summer, Pittsburgh hosted the Batman movie, “Dark Knight Rises,” and also presently filming in Pittsburgh is “One Shot,” starring Tom Cruise.

The “Frank or Francis” project seems to be all but confirmed, though an official announcement has not yet been made. According to the Pittsburgh Business Times, “New York-based production company Likely Story Inc. has been awarded a $4 million tax credit to shoot “Frank or Francis” in Allegheny County, according to public investment records with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, which oversees the state’s film tax credit program.”

The movie is set to begin filming in January or February of 2012.

PHOTOS: Tom Cruise’s “One Shot” Filming in Pittsburgh

26 Oct

Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette tweeted a photo of a helicopter swooping low in downtown Pittsburgh for Tom Cruise’s movie, “One Shot.”

Other photos have been posted around the web from the movie set. I gathered some to share, below. If you have any, please tweet them to @Glitzburgh!

Photos of the Day: Mission: Pittsburgh! Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes & Suri out and about in Schenley Park, Oakland

10 Oct

Over the weekend, Tom Cruise and wife Katie Holmes were spotted in Oakland’s Schenley Plaza njoying the carousel with daughter Suri. Zombiefest 2011 was also going on, leaving little Suri a bit unsettled. However, according to sources, Tom seemed to be in a great mood, waving to fans and onlookers as he spent the day with his family.

It seems that the Cruises have really been enjoying their time exploring Pittsburgh.

Tom Cruise and American Idol in Pittsburgh!

5 Oct

Tom Cruise is in Pittsburgh filming his upcoming movie, One Shot. (Fun fact? He follows @Glitzburgh on Twitter and also gave us a shout-out one day last week!)

Anyway….when Cruise and wife, actress Katie Holmes, and their daughter, Suri, weren’t busy enjoying the Milkshake Factory or Soergel’s Orchard & Farm in Wexford, they were likely taking in all that Pittsburgh has to offer.

Recently, Werner Herzog was cast to play opposite Tom Cruise in “One Shot,” as the movie’s villain, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for him around the city, too.

Last week also found celebrities Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson, and Ryan Seacrest in town. They were here judging American Idol auditions at the Convention Center and also held a press conference. (From all accounts, J.Lo is STUNNING in person!)

Tell us: have you had any celebrity sightings here in “Glitzburgh” lately?

PS: Tom Cruise’s film One Shot is now casting!! If you are interested, contact Nancy Mosser Casting for more information. Call 412-621-1160 if you are interested in being an extra this weekend and next week.

Pittsburgh-Filmed ‘Abduction’ Premieres Today

23 Sep

Today is the much-anticipated release of the movie, “Abduction.” Anticipated by whom, you ask? Well, Taylor Lautner fangirls (and boys) and Pittsburgh alike have been awaiting the release of this film.

The movie was filmed in Pittsburgh last summer and the story is also based here in Da’ Burgh as well. Shoot locations include Mt. Lebanon, PNC Park, and more.

I was an extra/background actor in the flick, and though I missed the VIP Fan Premiere/Sneak Peak Advance Viewing last week in Monaca, I will be seeing the movie this weekend to see if I can spot myself and/or any familiar locations!

So, if you are looking for something to do on this rainy Pittsburgh weekend, I suggest you go see Abduction — whether you are a member of Team Jacob or Steeler Nation, the scenery surely won’t disappoint! 😉

Batman Wraps, and the Dark Knight Thanks Da’ Burgh!

22 Aug

The filming of Batman movie, “The Dark Knight” has wrapped. Sorry, Pittsburgh — there will be no more snow-in-August or Batmobile sightings around town, no more rubbernecking at work to get a peek at the set or a star-sighting on your lunch break.

It will be exciting to see Pittsburgh as “Gotham” on the big screen, and, while us Pittsburgh residents are thankful to the production for choosing us as the locale, it seems as though the cast and crew of The Dark Knight are grateful to us, too.

Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows Part 2 – REVIEW

15 Jul

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the midnight premiere of the final installment of the Harry Potter movie series, the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

We saw it in 3D, in the VIP section, and so, it was bound to be good, regardless. But – as a “Potter” virgin (yes, I’ve NEVER read the books or seen the other films!) I didn’t know just what to expect.

To my (pleasant) surprise, I enjoyed the film! It was action-packed and entertaining, and I knew enough about the franchise to be able to understand the plot and catch on to what was going on. So, even being a newbie, this is a movie that, if you like movies, you’ll enjoy.

Definitely of “blockbuster” caliber (I mean, it SHATTERED midnight box office records!) this is a must-see for the whole family. It made me want to go back and watch the other films, too. The crowd was great, many donning costumes and/or decked out head-to-toe in Harry Potter gear — and I am sure that it was a bittersweet experience for these loyal fans.

But, even for “bandwagon” fans like myself, it was a great experience. The movie was playing on multiple screens and was completely sold out. I never thought at 2:35am that I’d be stuck in “Harry Potter traffic” — but, alas, I was.  The movie garnered $32 million in advance ticket sales alone, all-in-all grossing a whopping $43.5 million last night — an astonishing new record.

I’d say that it is definitely worth checking out; and the 3-D experience on this one added to the fun.

Enjoy — let me know if you “get your Potter on” this weekend, and what you think of the flick!

3-D Glasses, Harry Potter-style! 🙂
